Zohran Mamdani's win in New York was impressive. Not only did he get about 10 times the votes of GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa, he also comfortably defeated centre-right Clintonite Andrew Cuomo, by about 150,000 votes.

This has been widely noted as a beacon of hope for the anglophone left. But it's also undeniable evidence of what kind of platform can work for the electoral left in 2025.

Mamdani's campaign persistently steered away from Culture War mud wrestling, despite constant attempts by both the GOP and Cuomo to pull him into the mud with them. Particularly over his position as a Muslim on the Gaza Genocide.

The campaign strategy was to relentlessly refocus election debate on the unaffordability of basic needs like housing, food, and transport. Proposing radical solutions that could actually make them affordable, not virtue-signalling tinkering a la the Clintonites.
