it’s impossible to be puertorrican and not love Bad Bunny. i really have to pay more attention to his shenanigans because this outfit he wore at the #MetGala is peak boricua #semiotics
we see Bad Bunny’s double breasted jacket is a take on the 1950s Zoot suit ―but the jacket is shorter, ending at the waist instead of mid-thighs.
he’s also wearing brown gloves with green fabric made to look like cohitre; whilst holding a leather bag that most folks would think is a bowling bag but ―for boricuas of my generation (GenX)―, this looks like the weekender bags our families used to collect from PanAm and TWA, two airlines that became symbols of what Luis Rafael Sánchez called “la guagua aérea”.
almost forgot to include the shoes. they look like they may be short leather boots, which go with the Zoot suit aesthetics. they’re the same ivory/cream white of the tie.
this is peak boricua dandy.
Bad Bunny wearing a gun metal black double breasted jacket adorned by a rhinestone AMAPOLA flower (also called FLOR DE MAGA). under it he’s wearing a café con leche colored button-down shirt, cream colored silk tie pinned down with a rhinestone covered tie clip and to top it all off, he’s wearing a pava, woven from thick black & brown fabric.
