By default my cell phone is a surveillance device. I fixed that.

One of my ongoing experiments at increasing privacy has been a shift in my phone use. A bit of context: the phone has always been my least favorite computing device. The screen is too small, I don’t like typing on it and I rarely get real calls but I do get a lot of spam calls. So, for me, it’s always mostly been a camera and portable music player...

@dennyhenke I also use Signal as primary communication app and only wear a phone (on Air-mode) if there is a spectial need (travelling for example). But for (elderly) people, who I only can call by telephone, I use Intervoip (or any other VoipVuster-clone) on my desktop. It has an app, but you can also make calls through the browser. https://www.intervoip.com

@dennyhenke Why not Signal for texting and calling with encryption to/from the tower?

Also, in airplane mode, phones still log GPS. So when you go back online, it's possible this data is uploaded.

There is a great program for Android called AFWall where you can control literally everything, but you must ROOT it: https://github.com/ukanth/afwall
