> Galatasaray supporters displayed banners reading 'Humanity lost consciousness in Gaza' and '#PalestinianGenocide' before their Uefa Champions League group stage match against Liverpool at Rams Park in Istanbul on 30 September.

Galatasaray went on to win 1-0 through a first-half penalty from Victor Osimhen, securing their first home victory in the competition since 2018.

The display came as Europe's governing football federation, which consists of the national football associations of 55 countries, comes under growing pressure to suspend Israel following UN experts’ accusations of genocide in Gaza and mounting pressure on sporting bodies to act.

Critics have also noted that Russia has been suspended from Fifa, world football's governing body, and Uefa tournaments since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
