The population of the UK is on the order of 68 million people
Lets say 2/3 are adults, that is about 45 million people
so 420K is ***one percent of adults in the UK** in other words a bullshit nothingburger (at least so far)
math is hard for the innumerate
I have no problem amending #OSA to make it better, particularly regulating the age verification process.
But what's a real disaster is the systemic destruction of society by unregulated online media - all for the grotesque consolidation of wealth and power.
The OSA, while imperfect, is an absolutely essential step to protecting humanity from these sociopaths.

A consequence of the Online Safety Act is that it consolidates more power into the monopoly Big Tech companies. They can shoulder the burden of compliance for age verification and more, while smaller (and often better moderated) sites are forced to shut down.
I get that there's a lot of fear (some Astroturfed) scaring small sites into giving up their own server and/or moderation. But there are zero actual instances of small sites being abused or targeted by an understaffed regulator.
The law is explicit in prioritising big company offenders and it's total speculation that small sites have any risk unless going well over the line in violent or dangerous content.
So, sure, lobby for improvements. But #BuildOnOSANotRepeal
