“On June 27, 2025, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri approved the proposed purchase of all of the assets of 23andMe by TTAM Research Institute (“TTAM”) … TTAM is a nonprofit medical research organization founded by Anne Wojcicki (Co-Founder and former CEO of 23andMe).”

– 23andMe bankruptcy notice

Well this all sounds above board…

@aral Rinse repeat. Glad I was never inclined to participate in that scheme.
My MIL bought kits for the family, last christmas but ended up throwing them away in part due to the bankruptcy and some common sense. The family was not interested.

@aral just a reminder, part of the standard process in the USA in births, is to take a blood sample of each newborn and put it on a card for storage, at least in theory kept completely separate in identity, from the actual birth certificate, these cards are kept permanently by the government.

These cards can pretty easily be used to get the DNA for sequencing and thusly if it hasn't already, the government can have a full genetic database of all natural born US citizens, whenever it wants one...
