About 8–10 years ago, my #EhlersDanlos doctor (Dr F) told me to take up #pilates (starting with private lessons so the instructor can ensure good form since the EDS makes me more injury-prone). She said #yoga would be acceptable too (NOT hot yoga!!!), but Pilates would be safer.
In April, I was taking a #tango lesson with Germán Filipeli, and he said I needed more core strength to do volcadas and should take up Pilates.
Weak stabilizer muscles are manifesting knee pain, so I finally started.
(“Get strong” is basically the only treatment for EDS. It’s a fundamental problem in how my body produces a certain protein (collagen). It can’t be changed, but it can be compensated for, to a certain extent, with limited success depending on severity. When “get strong” isn’t enough or isn’t possible, braces, kinesiology tape, mobility aids, and painkillers are what remain.)
@xabean I have 4 canes! Different fashion options. One is wooden for at SCA events.
And after I got arch supports and then later good, supportive shoes, I went from using them 3–5 days/month to 3–5 days/year.
And after I started dancing, I went over a year without using them!
And then I crashed kneecaps with another dancer and knocked over some dominoes.
