Closer woman: holds up shoe to show she’s changing and leaving
Me: shakes head and points finger in arc for “further” again, mourning the further woman’s name
A few nights ago at practica, I was dancing with someone, and I led a planeo. The follower stopped short right after, with a puzzled expression.
Follower: "oh, whoops, I don't know what happened, but my leg went out"
Me: "yeah, a planeo"
Follower: "that was LED???"

*eyeroll* and _of course_ the registration page for ATUSA festival attendees lacks a "both" option for role.
I guess if I ever want to hack the "oh no, 60% of registrations are from followers, and we need to balance this out" situation, I could register for unqueer festivals as a leader.

After messing up my knee, the PT told me that since I danced tango in high heels, I should do single-leg heel raises (other foot on a chair) holding 5 pounds in each hand, 25 reps.
One of my tango teachers says to do heel raises, counting to 6 up and 6 down.
So, I just did…I don't know, maybe 10 reps? however many I could manage… one-leg, 5 pounds per hand, 6 count up, 6 count down.

Home from the milonga that ends at 3am.
It had been down to just 4 of us dancing: Lev & Julia, me & Jonathan. They kept dancing after we stopped, but Jonathan and I were discussing sequences that followers might do on autopilot and testing things out in a corner. We all took off shoes. Julia came to say bye to me, and then “Una noche más” came on, which I love, so she and I danced that together, barefoot, in close embrace, swapping roles, to end the night.
Wow, it is so true that once you’re known as a leader, opportunities to follow dry up, even as a feminine woman in high heels. I love that I mostly dance with women, but I wish I got to follow more often!
I’m giving a guy friend an “I follow too” t-shirt from Queer Kultural for Christmas, and I half think I need one too. When I say to local men “I’d love to dance with you again. It’s been a while!” the answer is “but I don’t follow.” I have to remind them “I do!”

Omg Erin of #ErinAndDoruk is the best!
A local tango teacher had commented on my right shoulder being lower than my left, and I knew that was the case because 13–14 years ago I noticed it when sewing. A PT had determined it wasn’t scoliosis or a leg length discrepancy, just my pelvis being twisted and told me how to reset it, but that doesn’t last by itself.
Activating all the core & pelvic muscles Erin told me to when dancing? They’re level.
I’m now at the airport after spending the weekend at the home of #ErinAndDoruk in Michigan. It was a #tango fundamentals seminar; not “first day dancing,” but rather a fair bit of “tango theory,” understanding the structure of the dance and how to analyze figures in terms of the code of walking. And of course, how to execute them.
I also did the teacher training with them, since I’ve started substitute teaching in @dcqueertango

Erin did her degree in dance and used to be a Pilates instructor before becoming a full time professional #tango dancer. She KNOWS how bodies move.
She’s also hypermobile like me.
She was able to pinpoint exactly what muscles I need to activate to dance without pain from my knee injury! And she pointed out specific steps that were putting me in dangerous positions and how to correct that and gave me exercises to help with the hypermobility-related problems.
