#Onthisday in 1765, the last “witch” was burnt in #Somerset.
➡️ Mary Norwood, living in Axbridge, was accused of killing her husband with witchy poison.
➡️ On 8th May in Ilchester, she prayed and sang a hymn – amazing she could find any voice at such a time. Then, she was garrotted and her dead body was burnt to ashes.
➡️ People believed that by burning her body she wouldn’t come back as a ghost!
