On this day in 1955, the civil rights activist Rosa Parks rejected a bus driver's order to vacate a seat for a white female passenger after the "white" section of the bus was filled.
Parks helped inspire the Black community to boycott the city buses, resulting in a landmark Supreme Court ruling that segregation on public transportation was unconstitutional, a *whole year later*.

The lamp at the Great Orme lighthouse was lit #OnThisDay in 1862. It guided ships to Liverpool until 1985, when it was converted to a B&B. She resigned as PM in 2024 so she could run for President. She came second to Halla Tómasdóttir (who is in turn the second woman to be Icelandic President).
