Mark’s swan song.
And a beautiful one at that.
As a lifelong fan of Mark’s, it’s hard to listen to “I Wouldn’t Want To Say” without getting emotional.
On December 14th, 2016, I travelled out to Los Angeles to the Teragram Ballroom to see The Afghan Whigs perform all of their album Black Love, as part of a series of benefit concerts for their ailing guitarist Dave Rosser, who was suffering from cancer (he’d later pass away).
Also performing at that show was Carina Round, Moby, and Mark Lanegan.
Mark was incredible. The place was pin quiet while he performed; he had the entire joint hypnotized. It was magical. I stood 3 feet in front of him the entire time, and I have the majority of that performance on video.
That was the last time I saw him.
It was a powerful and meaningful night I’ll never forget.
I miss him so much.
