‘A federal judge in Boston lambasted Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Thursday for what he called an “unconstitutional conspiracy” to target pro-Palestine students for their speech.’ The judge also invoked the Fugitive Slave Act to describe the modern-day conundrum of federal immigration enforcement. https://www.courthousenews.com/judge-slams-government-for-conspiring-to-chill-free-speech-of-pro-palestine-students/

“These cabinet secretaries have failed in their sworn duty to uphold the Constitution,” U.S. District Judge William Young exclaimed.

That said, those of us that've lived long without US BigTech, or mostly, can be too quick to urge others off it, even throwing shade. Rather, we would do well to learn a little patience and take the time to help others transition from their engineered dependence. With a bit of openness and care you'll find many simply don't know where to start.

Guiding folk off a toxic BigTech stack need not be solely online. It can take the form of install parties, monthly meets, community center standups etc.

#PostOfTheWeek (season 3):
The recent US invasion of Venezuela and the saber-rattling toward many other countries, including Greenland and Denmark, have given new energy to concern about dependence on the United States and how governments should react. Given that I am Canadian, I’ve been thinking a lot about what this means for my country over the past year, given its close proximity and deep ties to our neighbour to the south.

#FotoVorschlag Dinge, die mit ‚B‘ beginnen wie Brücke

#photography #nature

A foggy scene featuring a small iron bridge over a calm waterway. Surrounding the bridge are trees and ground covered in yellow and orange autumn leaves, with a building partially visible in the background. The atmosphere is serene and slightly mysterious.

#PostOfTheWeek (season 3):
The Maqlû, “burning,” series is an Akkadian incantation text which concerns the performance of a rather lengthy anti-witchcraft, or kišpū, ritual. In its mature form, probably composed in the early first millennium BC, it comprises eight tablets of nearly a hundred incantations and a ritual tablet, giving incipits and directions for the ceremony.

…The Postgrowth Cities Coalition says of their website:

1/2

“We have let the Website Carbon Calculator (https://www.websitecarbon.com) test our carbon footprint. It reported that our web page is cleaner than 95% of all web pages tested. This website produces only 0.05 g of CO2 every time someone visits a page. Additionally, the server that hosts this web page runs on sustainable energy.

We all share and use the web, just as we all share and live on this planet…

#PostOfTheWeek (season 3):
The internet consumes a lot of electricity. 1021 TWh per year to be precise. To give you some perspective, that’s more than the entire United Kingdom.

From data centres to transmission networks to the billions of connected devices that we hold in our hands, it is all consuming electricity, and in turn producing carbon emissions equal to or greater than the global aviation industry.

I was reading the The Maqlu Ritual
last night for reasons.

Like it's a trip reading the various incantations.
