Today is the 4th Sunday in #Advent.
The last night of #Chanukah.
And the #WinterSolstice.
How lovely to have so many ways at once to acknowledge light, miracles, and hope.

Third night. Chanukah sameach! #StayVisible #mazeldon #Chanukah
I am sick and tired of the Christo-centric hot take that Chanukah is somehow the “Jewish Christmas” and an unimportant holiday to Jews. Chanukah is a celebration of Jewish bravery. Of Jewish refusal to succumb to millennia of imperialism and cultural erasure. Of Jewish survival in the face of generation after generation seeking to destroy us. The flames didn’t burn for eight days, they are still burning. #Mazeldon #Jewish #Chanukah #Hanukkah
"[O]ne of the obligations of #Chanukah is to “publicize” the miracle of a small #Jewish community successfully resisting the surrounding, oppressive culture. The #Talmud, one of the most sacred sources of Jewish wisdom, argues that a menorah should be placed outside of one’s home, ideally at the busiest time of day. This way the general public will see the candles and learn about the miracle. The Talmud builds in a backup plan. For #Jews living during times of persecution, they should light a #menorah inside their homes, where it isn’t visible to outsiders.
I wish I could tell you that this precaution is antiquated and no longer necessary. But, unfortunately, that isn’t the case."
