selkie folk, meaning ‘seal folk’ can change from seal to human form by shedding their skin. The legends tell of seal fairies or elves who choose to come ashore in human form, and sometimes have human families. 🧵

Several of my 11” x 14” selkie linocuts on cream coloured Japanese washi paper with speckled bark inclusions are laid out on the table to dry. Each print shows a red-headed selkie shedding her seal skin in a rock in the dark blue sea surrounded by grey spotted harbour seals. The light blue sky behind has grey clouds.
