Today’s comic is drawn by Bea Tormo, it depicts two anthromporhic characters, a pink and large, go lucky bear, and a green cat, who is our protagonist. Both characters are non-binary. The comic is colored in these beautiful pinks, reds, and greens with a bubbly charismatic style. The comic is a mix of autobiography, education, and a splash of fiction, all to do with SSRIs and their side effects. The artist is Spanish, and today's comic has a few small typo's and translation issues that were left in, as the text is all hand-drawn and a part of the aesthetic. Page 1 Bear and Cat are sitting down in a coffee shop with little desserts and teas, and coffees sat in front of them. They are animatedly talking with each other with big grins. Bear 'You look great! What a change!' Cat 'Thanks! I feel better. Therapy was a lot of help to me.' Bear 'You also take medication, don’t you?' Cat puts their head in their hand and looks into their tea a little more deeply. Cat 'Yeah.' Bear 'How is it going?' Cat 'Well… There are some side effects…' Bear picks up their tea and twirls a spoon through it as Cat looks away and drinks. Bear 'What type of side effects?' Cat '…Sexual type' The camera pans and shows us a view from behind them, both little sweat, lines, and nervous motions float off of them both. Bear 'Sexual? Like what?' Cat 'Shhhhhh!' Bear'Sorry!' Hien Pham illustrates his comic with a simplified-realistic style with lovingly rendered hair details that sweep along his characters. He uses a full spectrum of colors and rich textures. Narration: Dr. Joe Kort, a sex and relationship therapist, coined the term Side in his 2013 online article "Guys on the 'Side': Looking Beyond Gay Tops and Bottoms". To put simply, a Side is a gay man who does not prefer penetrative anal sex. A series of dating profile cards fans across the page. There are three that take the forefront. One card is titled, "HAIRY BOTTOM" and is pink and purple hued showing a selfie of a fat man with curly brown hair and a full short beard. The middle card is labeled "SIDE BEAR", featuring a candid photo of a tall man with slicked back pink hair, rectangular glasses, and a neat full beard who is getting his cheek licked by a dog. The third card peeks out from under the stack of profiles with the title, "TOP NOW". A short man with fluffy blond-dyed hair, circular glasses, and mutton chops beard poses in a summery suit, clearly in a group picture but he has cropped out the others so the focus is on him. The stats of that profile are obscured. Narration: It's only within the last few years that the biggest gay dating apps have started to allow their users to identify as Sides.
