Ekialdea: A piece for double bass, percussion, piano, and the Adriatic sea. Also a Basque word. Eki means “sun” and aldea means “side”, so it literally translates as “sun-side” or “towards the sun” -- the way the Basque refer to the East.

I’m particularly pleased with how the double bass turned out in this piece. I’ve fallen in love with this wonderful instrument, and I’m truly sad to have to leave it here. I won’t be able to play it again for a few months…
