My oldest friend, in every sense of the words, is a poet. And we are from Whittier, California, though we never went to Whittier College (The Poets!)
Nearly fifty years later, Daniel McGinn read this poem from his first manuscript and I recorded it.

I've heard today is Poets' Day.
Some little bird had that to say.
And so, with words, forsooth, I'll play,
Though blurred my eyes, with hair that's gray.
Tomorrow comes a different vibe,
Breadcrumbs dropped on every side.
Music, hums or wave-crash tide
Voicing sums of mathkind's pride.
On knoll or dell, or peak severe,
The roll continues through the year.
The pealing bell tolls, loud and clear,
The poet's soul is ever here.
