I am going to try "perspective" as my One Little Word for 2026. Can I keep perspective in a world so deeply unsettled and disturbed? Can I see things and people from a different angle? Can I back up a bit and take in the larger picture? I think the word's multiple meanings gives some flexibility for perspective.

Earlier this year, I actually wrote an autobiography -- it was a gift last holiday from my boys, via the Storyworth platform, which sends regular writing prompts and then publishes final version in book form -- and the book I got published for the family was called Writing To Remember.

I wrote a poem instead of creating an image

An old Kenmore stove,
all rusted and unplugged,
left here for the rewilding
deep inside the grove of trees

the discarded metal remains
of someone's kitchen, and
to think of the trouble it took
to cart it here and dump it here

and the memories it contains

Oddly, the thing that came to my mind when I started to read the prompt (coffee has not yet kicked in, apparently) was Three French Horns, not three french hens. So I sketched three horns and wrote a quick piece for French Horn.

I would like to say that if ever there was a project that resonates so well with the small web ethos of #DS106 and other web-adjacent projects (like #clmooc), the Internet Phone Book takes the cake. https://internetphonebook.net/ I have a hard copy and I am slowly diving in, nodding my head in affirmation of its celebration of independent web voices. (and thinking a lot of @cogdog and his continue mission to celebration many of the same concepts). I'm so glad projects like this still exist, you know?
