Antara News: Govt to probe alleged Cesium-137 contamination in clove exports

"Jakarta (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has instructed a team to investigate the alleged radioactive contamination of Cesium-137 (Cs-137) in Indonesian clove products, as reported by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

“We dispatched a team today and plan to visit the company on Saturday to take further action,” he said on Wednesday."

The contamination is suspected to have originated from raw materials imported from the Philippines. Authorities have declared the situation a serious incident and temporarily suspended production activities in the area.

Of those examined, nine individuals were found to be contaminated with Cesium 137. They are currently receiving specialized treatment and medication from Singapore."
