#OnThisDay, 2 Aug 1855, Elizabeth Ann Holman goes on trial in Plymouth, UK, for being a suspicious person because she was discovered to be a woman disguised as a man. The case is dismissed. As is a second charge against her for wearing trousers in 1858.

newspaper cutting of the case detailing that she was charged for being a suspicious person. The highlighted text notes that she wore male attire "so that she could earn much higher wages as a man than she could have done otherwise".

#OnThisDay, 26 July 1913, around 50,000 people - mostly women - rally in Hyde Park, London as part of campaigning for votes for women in Britain.

Some of the marchers had set out from Cornwall or Scotland six weeks earlier. Many of them had faced abuse and assault along the way.
