#WeevilWednesday #bugstodon #insects #beetles #weevils #Coleoptera #Curculionoidea #MastoArt #art

A pen drawing in a notebook of a Nativity scene except they're all insects. Mary and Joseph are acorn weevils, and the baby in the manger is a fat grub. The three Wise Men are some kind of broad-nosed weevil, a spiny weevil, and a long skinny brentid weevil, and they are offering a nut, leaves, and a piece of wood. In the barn in the background are a few hanging chrysalises, a spider dangling from a small web, some aphids (one winged), and leaves in a sort of feeding trough. To the side are more aphids and their shepherds (Camponotus ants), and scattered around some isopods, springtails, a thrips, a red velvet mite, and a dung beetle couple with their dung ball. A very bright star shines above them.

it's #WeevilWednesday, here's Acanthoscelidius acephala which I find on evening primrose. I'm obsessed with how their faces look like "^|^" from a certain angle when they have their heads tucked in!!

#bugstodon #insects #beetles#weevils#Coleoptera #Curculionidae#Ceutorhynchinae

The weevil even more uncurled, flailing its clawed feet. (I put it back on the plant after this, don't worry)

The weevil in my palm, on its back, just uncurling from playing dead and reaching out one back foot to right itself. The way its head tucks into its thorax makes its face look like "^|^"

One of the same kind of weevil sitting on my fingertip, for scale. It's like 4mm long, tops.

It's #WeevilWednesday, post 'em if you got 'em!

These little bluish-black weevils were all over the cosmos in a park. Not sure if #Curculionidae or #Brentidae, subfamily #Apioninae.

#bugstodon #insects #beetles#weevils#Coleoptera#Curculionoidea

Side view of the same kind of weevil on a cosmos stem, so you can see the full length of its snout. It has a grooved carapace with a blue sheen.

A head-on view of the weevil. It has large eyes and looks ridiculous.

#Weevil time! These beetles of the genus Curculio typically measure from 0.24 to 0.35 inches. There long snoot is called a rostrum, and females can have one that exceeds the length of their bodies! It is the perfect tool for boring into nuts, which is where females lay their eggs. When newborn nut #weevils hatch, their home's also a feast. They munch on the inside of a nut from summer through autumn, until their birth place finally drops to the ground.
