'No, Billie Eilish, Americans are not thieves on stolen land'
WRONG WRONG WRONG
Billie Eilish is more intelligent, educated and well informed than these dummies in the Washington Post, period.
Get an education fuckheads. Americans ARE thieves who built on stolen land, just a fact. This whole continent and the wealth that sprung from it, come from land and resource theft, as well as stolen labor and lives.

I called the #MvskokeNation today to inquire about renewing my expiring tribal id (fyi ids expire, citizenship never expires). Every time I've called them over the years, it's been an amazingly pleasant experience.
Y'all have no idea how screwed up US gov't is. Well ok, maybe you do, but y'all have no idea how much better it could be for everyone. Everyone would be so much better off with #Native #Indigenous governance.

"""
The Whipple, a federal building in Fort Snelling on the outskirts of the Minneapolis and St. Paul, has long been a regional headquarters for ICE, having previously housed other federal agencies. The complex is located across the street from a National Guard base, down the road from a military base, and next to the preserved fort itself. The fort sits on the sacred site of the convergence of two rivers. It was one of the earliest sites of colonization in the area; at one time, it was a concentration camp holding native Dakota people.

If at any point in the past you ever felt that maybe Native soverignty was a niche issue, or so far from being realized that other causes were more important or relevant, things like this are a good reminder that that cause: overturning the colonial order, is the *same* cause as any meaningful change from the fascist status quo. Things like a "return to democracy" aren't necessarily bad, but the rot runs to the root of this nation, and any intervention that doesn't go that deep is going to leave us right back in this situation again later on.
The fact that ICE is detaining Native Americans is not at all a mistake given their white supremacist aims.

"How the United States funded land-grant universities with expropriated Indigenous land.
By Robert Lee, Tristan Ahtone, Margaret Pearce, Kalen Goodluck, Geoff McGhee, Cody Leff, Katherine Lanpher and Taryn Salinas"
Hi,
Are there particular Indigenous hashtags that you would like to see listed on this page?
Most of the tags on the list are what people suggested today rather than what I'd written. The post is asking for people's suggestions and I've been adding them as they've come in.
Apologies, it wasn't my intention to exclude anyone, I was just not sure what tags to use so I was asking for suggestions to build the list. Would be very very happy to have Indigenous tags on there.
@FediTips I don't take it personally because Indigenous invisibility is deeply ingrained into society.
I do think #Native and #Indigenous are simple but critical hashtags. If I had to pick 11 more:
#TurtleIsland
#TwoSpirit
#AfroIndigenous
#Beadwork
#BIPOC
#IndigenousCreatives
#MMIP
#MMIW
#MMIWG2S
#LandBack
#WeAreStillHere

If there is no Native/Indigenous #Mastodon category, and there are no Native/Indigenous instances listed at Join Mastodon, how can Native/Indigenous People signing up for the first time or even later choose a Native/Indigenous instance? As well as other non-white cultures, really WTF!
#Native #Indigenous #Racism
@Yehuda There are hashtags like #Native #Indigenous #NDN #LandBack #Indigenize #NativeMastodon #IndigenousMastodon #IndigenousCreatives #TurtleIsland. Connect to accounts you find under these tags and remember, that there is no big brother here who has already done everything for you. If you don't find it, found it!

A Native Community Preserves its Food Traditions
Members of the Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation are keeping #TraditionalFoodways alive in the face of #ClimateChange and human impact.
By Allie Hostler
November 21, 2017
Excerpt: "Changes in tribal food systems and lifeways began in 1853 as the #CaliforniaGoldRush brought a mass incursion of #WhiteSettlers. Making way for the newcomers and addressing the ' #IndianProblem,' California paid a bounty for Indian scalps, which proved to be more lucrative than panning gold. The first session of the California State Legislature passed the Act for the Government and Protection of Indians in 1850, which legalized removing Natives from their land and separating Native families.
"Ceremonies were ambushed and villages were burned. In 1856, the U.S. government forcibly removed 1,834 #Tolowa to coastal concentration camps. By 1910, like many California tribes, the Tolowa population had dwindled—from more than 10,000 to just 504. Despite the 14th Amendment, the Act for the Government and Protection of Indians was not fully repealed until 1937.
"Relying on the knowledge held by the few families refusing to give up their traditional ways, the Tolowa persevered.
" 'My family managed to hold tight to our food, language, ceremony, songs, beliefs, and protocols,' says Jones. 'We fought to keep connected. We purposefully protected and passed along this way of being so it didn’t die.' "
