it's may and california is on fire and philly hit almost 100 degrees today (38 C)
what's additionally sad about this smoke is some of the trees on fire on the island are the Torrey pines 😢

@inquiline what's a Torrey pine?
a lot of the forest fires in Canada are so intense cause planted pines replaced what was clearcut.
this island has also had problems with disturbed/degraded ecology, but these pines are a "native species" that only grows in two places, this island and part of san diego county. i don't think we know yet if they burned up(?). the ones in SD are stressed from climate change now and dying because in their weakened state they're more vulnerable to pests, very sad
@inquiline I'm May and I have nothing to do with any of those statements, I swear.
But also uuuuugggghhhhh.
very sorry to get you mixed up in all of this 😞
