“I am shocked and disgusted,” #ArundhatiRoy wrote, adding that she believed “artists, writers and filmmakers should be doing everything in their power to stop” the war in #Gaza.

“Let me say this clearly: what has happened in Gaza, what continues to happen, is a genocide of the #Palestinian people by the State of #Israel,” she wrote.

The war is “supported and funded by the governments of the United States and #Germany, as well as several other countries in Europe ..."

@MishaVelthuis two days in a row on #Berlinale:
- “We are a-political”
- “We have to stay out of politics”
- “Many people die all over the world.. it’s complex”.

Go make commercials and infotainment…

Side note:
The personal, fact free, attacks from the ministers from Germany, Italy, Czech republic and France on UN Special Rapporteur Albanese demanding her resignation is in the same flow of lobby being spread across Europe.. also among Dutch “journalists” sharing the exact same message.

@wlaatje the response is out:

https://variety.com/2026/film/global/berlinale-issues-statement-following-political-backlash-1236663708/

There are a lot of words but the last sentence says it all:

"We thank our team, guests, juries, our filmmakers, and the many others engaged with the Berlinale for cool heads in hot times."

We got to the point where genocide is slowly incorporated in the "things that are not necessarily good or bad, but complex, whose meaning needs to questioned by artists from many perspectives".
