Newsom’s moves might be clever. They might even be effective within the narrow metrics of political gamesmanship. But they’re not liberatory. They don’t point toward a future defined by equity, justice, or care.

Because nothing about his behavior suggests he’s operating from outside the myth of white male supremacy.

And that’s the truth so many refuse to face.

What Newsom is doing isn’t revolutionary. He’s using his immense unearned power and privilege to match the energy of another equally powerful white man. That’s what privilege affords, an arena where only those who look alike, think alike, and benefit alike ever get to “compete.”

He’s just particularly skilled at it because, ultimately, he’s competing against his own reflection.

And that’s where so many white men mistake strategy for substance.

In Facilitated Conversations with Kim Crayton – Mediocre, we’ve spent the past few months unpacking this very pattern. The myth of white male supremacy creates the illusion that mastery within systems, institutions, and policies built by and for white men is evidence of leadership, vision, or moral authority. But success inside a corrupt structure isn’t transformation…it’s maintenance.

Until white men stop measuring their worth through domination, competition, and control, even when it’s wrapped in liberal language, you’ll keep mistaking the mirror for the movement.
