It’s not just that UK users have to face age verification checks with multiple uncertified providers.

People are being forced to open up accounts on the particular platform they’re trying to access at the same time.

The UK Online Safety Act has stimulated a data mining industry for the benefit of commercial interests.

@openrightsgroup Naomi's argument seems to focus solely on the dangers of sex work, neglecting the voices of those who choose it. By framing sex work as inherently harmful, we risk further stigmatising and marginalising sex workers. Instead, we should advocate for their rights, emphasising decriminalisation and regulation to ensure safety and autonomy. Her argument is fixated on anti-sex work rhetoric, side lining crucial issues like data sharing risks and the implications of age verification.

@openrightsgroup age verification on itself threatens UK citizens by compromising privacy and freedom online. It creates a surveillance state where personal data is collected and shared, exposing users to potential exploitation and breaches. This authoritarian approach undermines the open nature of the internet, pushing individuals toward unregulated spaces. Instead of protecting users, it fosters a culture of mistrust and control, eroding the very freedoms we should be safeguarding.

It doesn't seem like they have thought about the privacy and protection of data for UK residents at all, even worse it feels like they are purposely undermining it.

This is an absolutely authoritarian move from the UK govenment, I'm sure they'll be coming after VPNs next, just like they've been targetting encrypted messaging.

This is about controlling the public not protecting it.

Just remember folks with a VPN you can hide your location so geoblocked BBC is available, and free as you no longer need a tv licence either.

The UK Online Safety Act has ushered in a market for age verification without regulating the industry 🤷‍♂️

Millions of UK users have to trade their sensitive data to access information or support that’s deemed ‘harmful’.

We compromise our digital rights with no regulatory standards for privacy or security.

Keir Starmer thinks he's the only one with privacy rights in all of the UK.

Stand and deliver. Your data or your rights!

The UK Online Safety Act has created new opportunities for cyber criminals to scam and exploit people by building its house on sand.

The age assurance industry must be regulated now!

Yes, restrict it to the ministry of intimate knowledge that knows all about you! Er actually, no way! Why would I want needless centralising of everyone's data? You know all regulation will do is select who can store your data. That is their next plan anyway... Why would I preempt it rather than resist it? Also, that doesn't address the issue, the scams, the normalisation of providing id and data. This is such an awful idea (sorry)
