Except that the US and Aotearoa are different in almost every way. Other than being predominantly English-speaking, and having governments chosen by elections, we have almost nothing else in common.

I'm not the first to point out that the US seems to be going the kind of extreme hypernormalization the USSR went through in the decade or 2 before it collapsed. See the 2016 Adam Curtis film on the subject.
Nor am I the first to say that there's a good chance we'll see the US fall apart in my lifetime. Paul Buchanan, a former Pentagon analyst now based in Aotearoa, has said as much on the A View From Afar podcast. Notably he also said this is much easier to see from outside the country.

@mttaggart my understanding of TailScale is that if I get TailScale I have a tailnet and I'm dragging around a bunch of extra complexity that I don't need for a basic VPN, but perhaps I misunderstand the affordances of the app
@glyph Potato, potato, complexity, options. Tailscale as a SaaS product is something you might want to avoid. But it's an easy onramp. You can use as much of it or as little as you like.
There's also Headscale, the self-hosted implementation of a Tailscale server, but that breaks the rule about adding infrastructure.
Netbird, same thing, but imo drastically less complexity.

I heard recurring character Gerard Key explain his backstory and the supernatural paradigm the show operates upon (statement taken posthumously direct from subject), a true-crime club who started hunting each other, what appears to be a different vampire depiction, a cleaner who appears to have accidentally traversed universes (via a recurring haunted house) to reach the Magnus Archives, an antique meat grinder, & The Mechanical Turk.
