@mttaggart the funnier part is that gambling contributes to the geo-engineering of the nevada desert, which i suspect has a lot of water impact.
this is a fun question.
With the goldenrod in bloom, and the asters starting, it's going to be a lot of bee and wasp photos from me until the weather gets cold.
TIL that you can download the Gothic novella *Carmilla* for free at Project Gutenberg @gutenberg_org
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/10007
I recently saw the film, which you can watch for free on Tubi if you are in North America (or have a VPN).
@_elena @leberschnitzel Are you doing a formal couch25k? I started one 4 weeks ago and am travelling to a hilly area for week 5, which is where the runs get longer and the rests shorter and I am quietly dreading it. I don't even like jogging slowly downhill.
@etp I started training with the app 5k Runner.
It adapts to your level of fitness... so that by week 2 it had me skip ahead to week 7 of training, gaaaah.
Today I ran my first 18 min long interval... tomorrow it's 20 minutes straight, no walking intervals. But it's so well done (the program).
My family is constantly amazed I don't feel any muscle pain - because there is a 5 min warmup and 5 min cooldown, which I religiously respect 😅
Revisiting some classics (to me) this morning. I love that this is a legit good cover of Heart's "Barracuda":
RT: @seanhhm Imagine you, a Canadian citizen, got murdered by Israel and all your country did was write a tweet.
I want a map app where I can import all my gpx tracks and then ask it to give me a route to where I want to go. Not the shortest route, not the least hilly route, not the calmest route...
but the route that follows my existing tracks the least.
So that I can experience new places I haven't been before.
Does this exist?
@forteller on #OsmAnd you can import gpx and you can add the points, segments or route of the gpx to the navigation. Perhaps you csn give it a try to see if it works for you...
I'm looking for a good, modern tutorial for C++. Something that _does_ mention "this is how it was done in the past", allowing me to understand older code, but also says "we don't do that anymore; the recommended way is now this".
I'm a seasoned programmer, I don't need an introduction into programming itself. But I find myself increasingly wading through C++ and C code for microcontrollers, and my university C knowledge isn't particularly helpful.
(Don't recommend Rust please, it won't help.)
For.. reasons.. I am making a wealth inequality playlist. I want songs that aren't TOO aggro and could be background-ish at an event, catchy, topical, without making themselves the center of attention. Here's what I have so far. Please parse this list and suggest along these lines, if you like.

@codinghorror
Nice playlist! I agree with others to add some Bob Marley in the mix. My contribution to the conversation would be the song "The Kids Don't Stand A Chance" by Vampire Weekend.

You can absolutely create new technological advancements without needing to build in surveillance or genAI.

(Note: the step counter and bluetooth are localized to the watch. You set it up to be recorded by another app. If that other app breaks privacy and sends telemetry back to some uncontrolled centralized server, then that defeats the purpose. But if the app just records and stores locally or sends back to a controlled server, then it's chill.)
@mttaggart considering intermittent reinforcement, they're the same picture...
@neurovagrant I'm not so sure. See some replies for rationales.

Train nerds, Is there a definitive list somewhere of which stations outside the Netherlands have a pole for tap in/tap out with OV chipkaart? I know there's one at Aachen. But which other stations have one ?
