lots of #gnome hate out today...
I probably shouldn't do this, but genuine questions:
what makes you so passionate about features changed more than 10 years ago now? and why can't they be found elsewhere?
Instance recommendation needed:
Some friends and myself are setting up a project called "My Writing Matters", that connects writers to editors, book cover designers, illustrators, proofreaders, and other professionals that don't use AI and won't scam them.
We've set up a website, but need to create a Mastodon account as well and I'm not sure what instance would be best.
Some writers' instances specify in their rules they don't want people offering writers' services so I want to be careful about that.
Any suggestions?
I'm not sure how it became incumbent upon me to accept and adapt to my colleagues use of LLMs instead of how we usually react to people taking shortcuts and hilariously self owning themselves while trying to get ahead at the expense of everyone else around them.
Feast your eyes, if you dare, on this magnificent beast
"it's kind of what I mean by cultural victory. There's one more piece that I heard about at @dweb Camp from @wakest talking about a federated events platform that was built in a squat in Italy and it has gotten adopted in the punk community and has a massive amount of events on it in Italy and Spain. Totally works for them. It's awesome." - @boris talking about @gancio at @localfirstconf

cc @mart0 I hope this isn't the unintended beginning of gancio gentrification...

Sometimes you need to make a firm stance against spirits - even if they take on an adorable form.

That stupid contrarian channel 4 ADHD program is going to cause a lot of direct harm with people coming off their meds or taking their kids off, but it's also causing a lot of wider harm to peoples' mental health by trying to take us back to the idea that if you struggle with something that many other people don't it must be because you're not trying hard enough. Certainly for me the greatest benefit from the wider acceptance and understanding of neurodiversity in recent years that this sort of program has been pushing back on hasn't been in terms of accommodations or coping strategies being offered, it's been the understanding that there are different kinds of people and if you struggle with something that most of the people around you seem to find easy it's not because you're being lazy or don't care about it enough, it's because it's harder for you than it is for them. You're just different, not a bad person.
Last year we had eInk name badges based on Gus Workman's Trellis project. What is becoming the Nerves Starter Kit.
Now for something completely different.

🚀 Golden Dome could require thousands of missile interceptors in orbit—and companies are scrambling to build them
「 A threatening missile could theoretically launch from anywhere in the world, which means Golden Dome would need enough orbital interceptors to cover possible launch points around the planet—ideally with more than one shot at each threat 」

LanguageTool was a fantastic rule-based LGPL-licensed advanced spelling and grammar checker that worked in many languages.
It was much better than its competitor Grammarly in every imaginable way.
Then its developers changed it into "AI", and it started occasionally making languages mistakes.
And today they said that it will be available only for paying customers.
Who here knows Java well enough to fork it? It's still LGPL as far as I can see.
