The other day I accidentally discovered that I have the 31st most-followed account on Mastodon and this goes a long way toward explaining why my mentions/replies are so weird and terrible.

Custom feeds curated by things other than hashtags are mostly experimental, e.g. ongoing work by @toddsundsted.

On Mastodon, for timeline curation you should also try lists. 🙂

The only way we can truly build the communist/socialist/anarchist society we want is if communal giving is normalized as something that everyone does. The only way I see capitalists doing that is through shaming them. Like, literally even Jesus couldn't get them to do it by asking nicely.

Caveat- I'm in an extremely rural area, maybe things are different in the cities.

Second caveat, because this is Mastodon, I'm sure someone will come along all "but I'm too poor/disabled to volunteer!" Bebe, you should be the recipient of those volunteer hours, they should be there for *you.* You deserve it, as a human, and I'm so sorry the greedy bastards have kept you down.

In any case, my first suggestion for anyone interested in election security is to become a poll worker in your local jurisdiction. They need the help, you perform an important service to your neighbors, and you'll learn a TON about how elections actually work on the ground.

This seems so obvious that it feels silly to even say it... but if your "leadership" consists of having a chat bot write "motivational" or (worse -- FAR FAR WORSE) "strategic" missives for you, and then send those out to "your people", don't be surprised if they won't be "your people" much longer.

The complete failure of leadership, being replaced by "leadership" at large companies is heartbreaking. But of course, every inflection point creates opportunities.

The chat bot led teams (and companies) will fail, and actual leaders will find many ways to make a difference and advance.

The way I try to dumb this down for the people in the back is this: "if you can't be bothered to write this, I can't be bothered to read it..."

@mcc all I know of is we keep having issues on Mac OS because users understandably do not know that if they turn on the "voice isolation" mic mode and then also turn on any of our softwares noise suppression (which, incidentally, often works better than what apple has built into the OS, or at the very least has more features) then you get two noise suppression / echo cancellation systems in a row and that usually makes the audio quality go to shit

windows just lets you open a mic in raw mode (which also sometimes still includes processing because hardware manufacturers and people who make audio drivers are bastards who cannot be trusted) but is at least *supposed* to be actually close to raw-ish, but *to the best of my knowledge* on mac OS there just isn't such a feature (nor in browsers, but browser audio is a whole Bonus Mess anyways and for "its a browser" reason will probably just always be worse)

#AndyBurnham’s first pledge (to end rough sleeping) is significant and worth talking about because it’s not just the right thing to do, but it’s a tangible deliverable.

He can be held to it, progress can be tracked (and obvs any progress will be good). His similar pledge in Manchester wasn’t delivered but led to a fall (I read 50% somewhere) but as he said today needs a national approach because their success in offering beds saw homeless people moving to Manchester.

The nature of hot take media is going to see these first few weeks full of people using policy A to label him a waste, and policy B as the messiah.. I’m just grateful to see change, from someone who can articulate the devastation of neoliberalism’s ‘four horsemen’ and wants to try and do something. I’ve started to read #HeadNorth (the memoir/manifesto he co-wrote with builder-turned-mayor #SteveRotherham) and it’s clear there’s much more than just vibes here.
