Wes Streeting's abilities are being scrutinized, with some Labour MPs questioning whether he has what it takes to be a better prime minister than Starmer. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2026/01/30/world/slick-eastender-britains-next-prime-minister/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #worldnews #keirstarmer #andyburnham #wesstreeting #labourparty #reformuk #tonyblair #uk #nigelfarage
"It's More Of The Same"
Just with a Northern accent.
Labour is Labour, and that's the problem.
And that's why I've voted Green since 2010

# #bbclaurak describes the #AndyBurnham situation as a "lose lose" situation
The NEC are sitting at 11 to decide if he can run

To sit as a candidate for the Gorton seat you will need to apply before 23.59 on Sunday 25 January
However, as #AndyBurnham is a metro mayor, he will need permission from Labour’s National Executive Committee.
The deadline to receive this 'permission' (and remember how many times Starmer persistently says what a great mayor he is) is 5pm on Saturday 24 January.
He had better get his skates on
Or his elbows out

While Andy Burnham continues to profess happiness with his current job as Manchester Mayor, he's stoking the perception that he'd be interested in making a run for leader of the Labour Party (likely, though not necessarily, via a safe seat in the Commons)... he has expressed support for electoral reform in today'e full page FT interview.
he seems to be picking a range of issues to discuss that would appeal to people feeling disenfranchised by Labour!
