Farm Your Yard, Growing Food as Resistance
by John, May 12, 2026
Excerpt: "This is resistance. We have the power to transform our food system a block at a time and divest at least some of the income we give to the corporate food machine. If you have questions or need encouragement to start your own garden, or, if you need help getting started, please reach out and we will be happy to assist you. Spring is here! No better time to get dirty!"

Bluesky and Threads are not Fediverse platforms. Bluesky is bridged and Threads federation is not bidirectional.
Tonight's Low Quality Ad is for this Stop Being A Dick Sticker. Gonna buy a bunch of these and stick them to every Richard I meet.

Oh shit! There's more!!!
Listen to "Nanny State Fiddler" - a bluegrass song about the dangers of sending unencrypted messages and warrantless wiretaps!
Cyberpunk / Cypherpunk / Solarpunk Bluegrass is now my favorite genre of music!
Justin Myles Holmes is great!!!!
Ok, I found the coolest thing ever.
===Cyberpunk Bluegrass Music===
@coreysnipes suggested I look into Bluegrass in addition to my current studies of Irish Trad music as I learn how to play the Irish whistle. That makes sense as a lot of Bluegrass stems from old Irish music.
In my search for Bluegrass music with Irish whistles, I stumbled across Justin Myles Holmes' "Barlow's Jig".
And get this... after listening to an Irish whistle, a banjo, a fiddle, and other instruments playing a bluegrass jig...
...you hear a voiceover reading of "A Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace (1996)" written by none other than John Perry Barlow, founding member of the @eff
John Perry Barlow. Barlow's Jig.
My worlds have collided.
Heck, I'd argue that Folk Music + Calls for Digital Independence = Solarpunk !!!
Give it a listen here (the voiceover starts at 2:45 but listen to the leadup as well):

Tagging for #SolarPunkSunday ! Wow!
in each sync context, modifications are built up as an ordered sequence of i/o operations, then explicitly committed. as these operations are evaluated during the blocking commit call, the only correctness requirement is that a named resource (file path) previously committed to the same context cannot match the name of a new resource.
note that this arises not as we engage in attempting to write a whole bunch of data, but when we allocate (e.g. open()) a resource handle. this should fail eagerly, and quickly, and unambiguously indicate a problem with user input, or with the input environment!
OMG NOOOOOOO I JUST READ THE NEXT PAGE THIS IS A MIND MELD
If you're a U.S. person you may not want to know it but this is what your tax dollars are doing today, in addition to paying for a big christian nationalist rally of kooks on the national mall.
@digitalsnow shit happens, but that sucks. It takes a lot of work to prepare physically, mentally, and emotionally for an interview. Hopefully this means they recognize this and want to give you an interview with integrity, instead of showing up half-committed because of whatever else is happening.
@markwyner They've already rescheduled me for Tuesday, so here's hoping that goes well.

I tried to introduce my son, Alex, to programming when he was young. He wasn’t interested. But he eventually found his way to it on his own. By the time Alex graduated high school, he had put his first app into the App Store.
Now, after 4 years at WPI, Alex has a BS in Computer Science and a Master’s in Data Science, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA. (Yes, he received the maximum possible grade in every undergraduate and graduate class he took in all 4 years!)
We are immensely proud of him! ❤️
@siracusa Looking good! Congratulations! 👏
that's why i proposed the named hierarchy of sync contexts (up to global). it takes our environment isolation mechanism and gives the user a structured resource (with a lifetime) they can use to express a sequence of modifications that can be unambiguously verified for correctness.
what is correctness?

As both a teacher and a parent, I should know better, but remember that when you try to teach something, you will teach something. Just make sure you teach what you intended to. Trying to teach some gestures to the #crows to communicate with them, I tried to teach them that "empty open hand" meant "I'm out of peanuts." But Ms Crow has definitely learned "Hold on, I'm getting more." Today she even followed me home. She never follows me home usually.
Yes, this was a mini #CrowUpdate
Hopefully, the hand gesture (mine) is slowly teaching, "In just a minute."
So re-watched Jujutsu Kaisen from the beginning in order of the timeline of events, and I have a whole new appreciation for what that show is talking about.
It has all the flashy stuff we anime heads like, but it's also a subversive story about people, institutions and the cost of stagnation.
Easily jumped into my favorites of today list. What a story.
