Thanks @pluralistic for the good read, and the indirect recommendation for the book Technofeudalism, which has been added the to read list.
Boy, is this ever good.

@pluralistic "You are absolutely correct, I did not raise the shields after detecting a hostile ship lock weapons. I should have followed all standard operating procedures as I was instructed to when taking command. Because of the heavy damage to decks 3-12, I will now activate emergency force fields, restore life support, and dispatch the damage control teams."
The damage control team was in 10 forward, the ship was destroyed 12 hours later when the enemy got main power back online.

Fire again. « This is the kind of doctrine you can only fully embrace after sustaining the kind of highly specific neurological injury that is induced by taking an economics degree, an injury that makes you incapable of perceiving or reasoning about power. »
One of my bedrock beliefs is that capitalists *really* hate capitalism. They may name their beloved institutes after the likes of Adam Smith, but they ignore everything Smith had to say about the necessity of competition to keep markets from turning into monopolies:

@davidgerard @timnitGebru @emilymbender @mattsheffield @pluralistic Just 7 pages into reading my physical copy of Prof. Kate Crawford's "Atlas of AI" (2021!) and she preempts much of what happened to Richard Dawkins and why. Cartesian dualism. ML hype train. Lack of embodiment. The dangers of anthropomorphizing the algorithm. Even her fellow Aussie @gregeganSF called out symbolics explicitly in his novel "Diaspora". I got the same freaky vibes reading Michael Padlipsky in my own research field.
I am adoring the two new words: hormuz as a verb ( now that Trump has hormuzed the oil industry 😁), and the Gretacene, which took me too long, and which she absolutely deserves as the permanent reminder of who kicked the hornet's nest and turned the volume up loud.
@mia ah yeah whoops this is the 866 font
Hey Sydney friends, I’ll be around on the 21st of May for Cocoaheads. I’ll be giving a talk on SwiftUI previews, Test traits and verification by AI agents. Should be a fun evening. https://meetu.ps/e/PKn3l/SgmFw/i #iOSDev
Alright new instance new #introduction time. I should really just copy this somewhere so I don't have to keep retyping it, given how much I move.
I'm #queer, and #polyamorous who's about 30 years old at the time of writing. I do tend to hop around fediverse instances, but I'd like to stop that at some point. I liked Friendica a lot, but my last 2 instances died very suddenly, and I decided against trying a third time. My more stationary account is @klymilark@social.lol, which should be up indefinitely if I don't decide to stop giving omg.lol my money (unlikely, they deserve it!)
I'm a #gamer, and have been for as long as I can remember. I play #FinalFantasyXIV, #GuildWars2, and #WurmOnline for #MMORPG, and I rotate between a few different non MMOs. I tend to play a lot of #VisualNovel, #Mahjong on Riichi City (and hopefully some on FFXIV once cross-DC queues hit NA!), and a lot of #NSFW games. If you have any suggestions on those don't hesitate to DM me, I'm always looking for more!
For some technical hobbies, I'm into #3DPrinting, and I've dabbled in #Soldering to make my own #MechanicalKeyboard. Didn't design it, but I did put it together without a kit 😁
Generally I'm very into #FOSS, and #HomeLab. I've also been a #Linux user since 2010. Over the years I've used several flavors of Ubuntu, Debian, EndeavourOS, Garuda Linux, Arch Linux, and currently a #Gentoo user. Also #Emacs is the best piece of software to ever be released.
I'm a #Writer, though I'm currently being very slow writing this novella. Hoping to turn it into a VN, but I can't draw to save my life, and it's real expensive to commission that many images. Might just do a light novel-style thing and throw an image in with each chapter.
For crafts I like #Knitting, and I can #Crochet though do that very infrequently because it hurts. I also do #TabletWeaving, though I'm fairly new at that.
That's just about everything! I do occasionally boost porn, and will probably post my own at some point. Images will be CW'd, text likely will not be, as it causes some distress figuring out what to CW

This has now moved to threat intel and is actionable with the publication of techniques used by exploiting attackers.
This morning we decided to launch a "Vulnerabilities" category to track vulns without further actionable intelligence besides patching and monitoring. And wouldn't you know it, a crit on Palo Alto's User-ID portal showed up to ring it in!

@lightweight @downbeatdan You can do all of the above!
@be @downbeatdan indeed. And I intend to - well, except for the exploitative mainstream platforms.

@lightweight @downbeatdan We used an Australian aggregator for our last few releases: https://imusician.pro/en/
When adding music I have to carefully navigate through all their popups and prompts to ensure we're making a single payment for perpetual release, and not entering into a subscription which seems to be their preferred model (and is the reason we left Distrokid). However, at least iMusician does have that single forever payment option, which many aggregators don't. Plus they're Australian, which is better than giving more money to a US-based multinational.
@leighelse @downbeatdan is DRMNZ Ltd a US-based corporation? Ugh.
