A nice feature of Graphene OS is having play services as something you can just turn on and off.
Needed to take Lyft ride, temporarily switch it on, get to my destination, switch it off.
Marvelous!

I was at an ethics seminar, for people from different professions - law, medicine, accountancy etc.
One of the topics was "Is it ever appropriate to form a sexual relationship with a client/patient?"
I was surprised that one person argued, quite strongly, that it was acceptable.
I'm not sure that I'd recommend that particular vet.
Idk how to tell you that dismantling your **enterprise org structure** into teams of disconnected 15 ICs reporting into a director that also has IC responsibilities is a really bad idea.
Especially when you have (*checks notes*) enterprise level clients with strict SLAs, expectations, and penalties. Like wtf this makes no sense.
@mayintoronto the announcement was fully written by AI. Probably chatgpt, but it barely matters. I strongly suspect the whole policy was also written by AI
@roknrol I don't think so, it's really a lot of data. We're talking exabytes here (milions of terabytes) to reach the entire Google Chrome user base. Google very much pays for bandwidth. This is from a few years ago: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/09/google-fights-latest-attempt-to-have-big-tech-pay-for-isps-network-upgrades/
They care enough about bandwidth to have developed not one but two custom binary patchers for shrinking Chrome updates (Courgette and Zucchini).
@gabrielesvelto Ah, fair enough, thank you. I clearly have not kept up.
Ever wondered why and how #OpenBSD was ported to the Sharp #zaurus ?
Well, having never had any Zaurus, I am overqualified to tell that story!
As the story is quite long, it will span two parts. You can enjoy the first part of the OpenBSD/zaurus story, where I discuss the unseen part of the iceberg.

Stay tuned for the second part next wednesday!
Goodmorning ☕️ #Fediverse
Good morning @Gina ☕️🍀
@strypey WTF does the jumble of words even mean?
@sumisu3
> WTF does the jumble of words even mean?
CLuxon's words? Usually nothing at all. If a politician's job is to speak at length, in a very self-important manner, while saying absolutely nothing, CLuxon is the consummate politician.

I'm inspired to see many long-standing Fediverse supporters, moderators, admins, and code contributors volunteer their expertise for Discovery Week! I can't wait to learn from you all.
But we're missing some important voices: Non-technical users.
Which is why I have a favor to ask: Please share this post with someone you know who is a casual, non-technical user of Mastodon or any social platform. I want to make sure we're hearing from a wide range of perspectives!
I'm hosting @Mastodon's first ever Discovery Week in just a few days. It's a chance for the public to weigh in on the future of online communities.
We'll be discussing topics like user-controlled algorithms, trust & safety, creator tools, and more. Your input will help steer Mastodon towards a more inclusive and impactful roadmap. Non-technical folks strongly encouraged to attend, and there's an async option if you can't make the live sessions!

Infrastructure isn't cheap, especially when you have nearly 150K accounts, most of which are *very* active.
Please consider donating! We have tiers starting at less than $1/mo if you subscribe annually.
We have a lot more coming, and Bridgy Fed and Bounce will be the foundation for all of it.

Lauterbach kritisiert X-Abschied: "Kann kein Vorteil sein"

Fragt sich, was der Vorteil ist?
@markus_netzpolitik was hat der studiert?
Yet another real headline that feels like it's from the Onion 🙃
Guten Morgen zusammen - wie gewohnt mit einem aktuellen Bild der Sonne per Satellit SDO.
How it began (2016) and how it ended (2026).
Farewell my sweet prince.

While the world seems to be running out of courage to act, russia’s violence does not slow.
Today, russian attacks across Ukraine killed 27 people and injured 120. Ukrainian blood is still being shed daily.
Now in its fifth year, it still feels like a nightmare with no end.
Leaving X.
German parties leaving, collectively, is more than a symbolic exit. It is a chance to reassess how and where political communication happens.
A platform’s relevance is not inherent. It is constructed through user behavior. And when influential users walk, the relevance begins to erode.
@claesdevreese The death of another right-wing platform beckons.
They all end like that, because the bargain is not fair or balanced: Right-wingers find their unity and identity signalling most potently through attacking left-wingers.
They don’t really agree on too much between themselves, so when the targets walk away there’s not much left to talk about, except maybe out-nazi each other, which just shifts the victims again.
