@sundogplanets After using public transit in more rural areas of Spain and Japan it's pretty obvious it doesn't have to be this way. Hakone for example has better public transportation than most places in the US/CA despite having only a fairly dispersed ~10k residents. It might be supercharged as a tourist destination connected to Tokyo but it still boggles my mind.

I've started #FinishOrFrogAlong by frogging a project I started out very excited about, and then liked less and less as I went.

This shawl pattern was released for Trans Day of Visibility, and I thought these sort of faded-denim-trans colors would be perfect for it. But the longer the rows got, the more chaotic it looked, and after putting it timeout for a while I've decided to start it over with a gradient once I'm done some other things.

Keir Starmer is standing down as an MP prompting a by-election for his London constituency;

already rumours are that Zack Polanski (leader of the Green Party of England & Wales) may stand, with the GPEW apparently already in talks with the Independent candidate Andrew Feinstein, who came second in the seat 2024, to try to ensure the left vote is not split.

If Polanski *does* seize this opportunity it will likely prompt significant interest & political manoeuvring.

When you reach a certain age as a software engineer, for instance my age, you give up the pretense of the rubber duck and just have conversations with yourself out loud.

There's been so much back and forth about the professional implications of LLM-based vs human software development. I hate to come down on the side of what always felt like gatekeeping in the past, but I think there is now a solid case to be made for a distinct "software engineer".
