I dunno, Imma write when I can write - eventually I'll be back enough that I can kinda control when stuff gets posted, but I'm so far behind right now I'm just doing whatever I can whenever I can; kind of like a Death March to close my tabs.

I avoid shitposting on the other account, so you can typically find whatever I published "on the blog" just on the front page of my blogging account:

https://social.treehouse.systems/@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes

If I blocked you there but haven't here you said s/t stupid. Hit me up to fix it.

(Naw if you pissed me off enough that I literally NEVER want to hear from you again, I will literally log onto the other account to block you there too. So if you're reading this, it was probably something dumb you said. I likely don't even remember - I just have no patience for bullshit and I'm a super busy lady. I can, and have, unblocked people across accounts. I don't unblock people I blocked on both accounts. A woman must live by a code...)

Anyway, maybe instead of listening to white billionaire dudebro who (allegedly) got an STD during sex parties organized by his sex-trafficking white pedophile billionaire dudebro buddy-buddy:
https://www.france24.com/en/epstein-emails-claim-bill-gates-contracted-std-had-sex-with-russian-girls

…we could globally ask people directly about what the best way to "improve" their lives is.

Oh we have? And overwhelmingly it's "stronger climate action"?

Huh, would you look at that. :blob0w0:

@rysiek In Virginia Giuffre's memoir she wrote that none of the men wore condoms and all the girls had to be on the pill and were tested every 3 months. Sounds pretty risky and disgusting to me. Also, Epstein had his own doctors he'd send the girls and young women to for gynecological exams et. al.

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@jenniferplusplus/116076822859250047

There's a very realistic future where small towns scattered all around the USA (and other places, but there's gonna be a shit ton of it here) will find themselves stuck with half built or buit-but-empty datacenters when this bubble bursts.

I think those cities should seize them from the bankrupt shell companies that will eventually own them on paper, and operate them as public utilities. Ideally, as part of or alongside public broadband utilities.

apropos:

"In July of 2021, Snupo and hundreds of workers walked through the gates and took over the factory. It was the most natural thing in the world, that we could go back into our factory, and fight for the chance to start over.

"It was the most natural thing in the world.

"There's a precedent for this: the Marcora law, which lets workers buy out their factory when the business is in crisis. And over the years, plenty have done just that, turning failing companies into thriving cooperatives."

Here, it would be community stakeholders, rather than workers.

Why do I not use “AI” at OSNews?

In my fundraiser pitch published last Monday, one of the things I highlighted as a reason to contribute to OSNews and ensure its continued operation stated that "we do not use any 'AI'; not during research, not during writing, not for images, nothing." In the comments to that article, someone asked:

Why do I care if you use AI?

High Agency

One term that keeps coming up in discussions about thriving in the AI era is "high agency." This 30-minute longread by George Mack is a great way to get you thinking about how high or low agency shows up in your life.

@colincornaby @jamesthomson Open source != public domain, and free software != free (it's free speech, not free beer), but apparently many developers are clueless re: all those nuances. ☹️

Perhaps if all LLM-generated code was legally automatically placed in public domain, we'd see a bit of a light bulb moment. 😂

@jaredwhite @jamesthomson All LLM generated code is in the public domain. The commercial companies just protect it all behind private repos. If you could force them to release it that would be what you’d need.

#Roblox, #Reddit and #Discord users must use biometric #ageverification tool backed by Palantir co-founder Peter Thiel

@JamesBaker says:

“People are worried, and angry, about having to hand over biometric scans of their face to overseas companies just to access online platforms. This includes children.

“Users deserve to know who is behind these systems, how their data is being used, and to have a real choice about who verifies their identity online.”

There is *so much* a bit of thoughtful urban design could do to build on that sense of community and student tradition, and mitigate the persistent rubbish problem and other issues that have plagued studentville for decades.

Maybe Otago Uni could deploy some of the world class anthropologists they have on staff to do some ethnographic fieldwork in studentville? Workshop solutions with the DCC community engagement team and the welfare team from the student union?

What else? Castle St would be a prime candidate to become a Living Street;

https://livingstreets.org.nz/

There's really no reason anyone needs to drive down Castle St if they don't live there. Instead of a standard, car-orientated road, it could be a pedestrian and bike corridor connecting the uni to the gardens. With a 1 lane road for essential traffic.

This is not without precedent in Ōtepoti, given what they've done with George St from the Octagon to Frederick St;

The redesign of the street could be a mass collaboration. Gathering ideas and needs assessments from past and present residents, student union reps, students and staff in relevant academic disciplines, uni governance reps, and botanic gardens reps, along with DCC city planners and community teams. This space that's so often characterised as a problem to be solved could instead be a living artwork.

As permaculture co-founder Bill Mollison famously said, the problem is the solution.

Astronaut, author, professional football player, and STEM educator Leland Melvin was born #OTD in 1964.

Here he is in the greatest photo ever produced by the US space program.

Katia Diachenko was eleven. A young gymnast from Mariupol, killed by russia’s invasion. Her name appeared on a tribute helmet worn by Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych. For that helmet, he was disqualified — deemed a “political demonstration” under IOC rules.

When remembering a murdered child becomes sanctionable, neutrality stops being balance and starts looking like moral failure.

Text: 'Her name was Katia. No sport without justice. Democrats European Democratic Party.'" The helmet led to his disqualification for "political demonstration" under IOC rules.

Conspiracy theories, UFOs, Aliens

@cshlan
Could be, but I think he also probably knows that when you ask a former president if aliens are real it means something different than if someone asked you or me. I'm not reading too much into it, TBC, I just think its odd considering how every president including him has said "no" or "I can't tell you"

@jonny
I don't know that they know. It may depend on who they talk to. There was apparently something of a hazing culture around aliens in the Air Force. Some are in on the joke and others aren't. There are people in Congress who believe fervently because there are people in the military who believe fervently but never have real evidence. I've heard multiple versions of the VIP being told not to ever ask again story. So who knows. Maybe someone convinced him.
