Quantum computers get the headlines, but quantum cryptography is already in production, securing real-world data. In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore how quantum key distribution, or QKD, is being deployed
This earworm will have me all night!
@misty firmware engineer here. my employer has long considered our niche to be low-ram-usage networking, and there is definitely an air of "yesssss, they'll come around"
@astrid Hah! Yeah, that makes sense
@EndlessMason well so you know even git is really inefficient about object storage but if we're worried about storage space that's a solvable problem
@EndlessMason in particular the output from build tools can and should and will be made to be optimally compressible. tarballs right now are actually not that. zip files could be it if i get off my ass and actually do shit for once
Over 50000 people marched in "The large climate demonstration" in central Stockholm today. The back of the crowd didn't even begin to move until two hours after the start of the march. After an additional two hours, the back of the crowd reached the final destination. By then, we had been standing or marching for about four and a half hours.
This is back to the amount of people marching in climate protests before the pandemic, or perhaps even more.
I'm imagining a shady dairy with a bunch of goats in ill-fitting cow costumes.
"Insect milk".
@hipsterelectron
As for centralisation, you'd need to find an org of humans willig to pay for their own computers to host the repository, but i think that still counts as central.
It's just less of a problem if if its owned by the community.
I'm definitely going to read these things more carefully in the morning when I take my "can read text" meds.
Thanks for three patience.

If you live outside of the United States,
do you know if your country has a plan if the US government decided to cut access to Google, Microsoft, and Amazon products overnight?
What would happen to your work?
What would happen to your hospitals?
What would happen to your emergency services?
What would happen to your banks?
Imagine overnight, for all those public services and private businesses, no more Windows, no more AWS, no more Google and Microsoft office software, no more remote files storage, no more emails, no more online maps, no more videochats.
What would happen?
Is your country prepared?
I would assume cutting off Canada would result in our cutting off their oil, electric power, and uranium, each having its own immediate to long-term effect, basically making their data centres and clouds useless instantly.
But we really do need (and I assume are planning) to disconnect our computing services from the unreliable rogue state.
If not, we should be.

@TheBreadmonkey She is my spirit animal
Move things and breakfast.
I’m really proud of what everyone managed to do together these past 24 hours, and so very grateful to everyone who pitched in.
These may well be dark times, but there’s no reason anyone should have to endure them alone. Taking care of each other is something we have the power to do. HAIL.
