✅️ Truth: Preprints establish your priority with a timestamped, citable record, reducing the risk of scooping by proving you were the first to share your findings.

Digital sovereignty is gaining momentum in Germany & Europe 🇪🇺
@republica in Berlin, Katja Mast discussed Europe’s digital future with @Tutanota alongside @ecosia and @jospoortvliet from @nextcloud
We made one message clear:
Europe must reduce dependence on non-European tech infrastructure. Now we need political support, public awareness & procurement that backs European solutions.
Together we can shape the internet of the future!🚀
On the irony of Ashkenazi Jews using "looking European" as a rhetorical weapon against Palestinians [apropos of #Wix's "unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans or Americans,"] meet Esther Schreiber, non-archaeologist with inflated CV and an elaborate cloth headscarf resembling a tea towel (a "tichel")... This one was appointed by Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu to lead the Israel Antiquities Authority. Eliyahu also advanced a bill to create a "Judea and Samaria Heritage Authority" for occupied West Bank, replacing military archaeology officer, with land expropriation powers in Areas A+B+C. Eliyahu said it's "an interim stage until full sovereignty."

Replication Journal Federation (RJF): "Officially launched in April 2026, the RJF is a network of Diamond Open Access and not-for-profit journals dedicated primarily to publishing replication research. (...) Our goal is simple: Let replication journals support each other. By cross-promoting our platforms and working as a united front, we ensure that rigorous replication research remains in the hands of the academic community."
Why is #Wix crushing?
In October 2023, Wix's Dublin office (~500 employees) was at the center of a major scandal. They created an internal Slack channel called "supporting-Israel-narrative" encouraging staff to create videos/campaigns to "support Israel's narrative" after Oct 7. Posts told employees to "show Westernity" because "unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans or Americans". Staff were advised not to focus on death counts because "the number of deaths and bombings in Gaza will be significantly higher". Wix fired Irish employee Courtney Carey (26) after she called Israel a "terrorist state" on LinkedIn.

It's been just over a month since @mariana_b rejoined the Newsmast Foundation team!
Behind the scenes she's been helping build more efficient systems. As our Apps for Change programme keeps growing in popularity, it's important we get these systems in place now. She's also been in the spotlight, helping us grow our network at in-person events and online.
Perhaps most importantly, her influence on the team has averaged in at least one gelato stop a day at in-person events 🍨
So a bit more explanation here!
There are currently 3 fuses on the board - battery input, debug power input, and DC-DC output. There are also TVS diodes on all 3 power rails for over-voltage protection which shunts power straight to ground which in turn should cause the fuse to blow during a sustained over-voltage.
I don’t expect the TVS to ever trigger, but having an early fuse in case of a short on the battery input is better than having a toasty warm lithium cell.
The debugger power input TVS I might expect to trip due to shenanigans on the debug port, and this one would make sense to be a PTC fuse.
The last fuse and TVS diode is on the output of the DC-DC converter, to prevent 5V appearing on the 3.3V rail if the DC-DC fails short.
Also, the device might end up going for a swim because it will be sticky taped to the back of a boat inside a water-tight case.
I wonder if Littelfuse has SPICE models of their fuses? They definitely offer models of their TVS diodes…
Mushroom Forest (2021)
I'm not a good enough artist to know exactly what I'm doing with my drawings. A lot of it is spontaneous stuff, like this one. I have literally no idea.
But I think this is actually inspired by the scene in fantasia with the mushrooms. The nutcracker scene. That red was so bright and the colors so magical, it stuck with me.
Also, I apologize for my previous post, which I deleted. I am not a big advocate for more AI, but people got that impression.
Afternoon lovelies. Still a bit busy with I'm-not-sure-what. Still hanging on in there. Also a bit soggy 🌧️

Over on the disinformation platform, its owner Elon Musk claims “Hitler was a socialist, therefore all socialists are Hitler”.
This post got 111 million views and apart from his claim being factually incorrect, it also shows that politicians of the remaining free countries should not support his social medium by posting there, because it is not about promoting free and informed dialogue — it is about spreading false myths using an algorithm design by Elon Musk to benefit Elon Musk.
Musk is a nazi... so he does what nazis do.

My taxes are going to murder school children overseas and to let pardoned insurrectionist pedophiles get their hush money payoffs to victims, meanwhile, the papers of record want to let me know the real danger is the guy who taxes second homes in Manhattan to balance budgets and feed hungry kids.

The Curious Case of Max Planck retracted papers. When past scientific practices meet contemporary publishing norms

Abstract: This article examines the case of two papers published in Naturwissenschaften by the physicist Max Planck that were retrospectively marked as retracted on Springer digital platform. Rather than originating in scientific fraud, these withdrawals appear to result from contemporary digitization and copyright-management procedures applied anachronistically to historical publications. Through an investigation of the circulation history of Planck 1940 and 1942 philosophical essays, the article shows that republication across multiple formats was a common and legitimate practice within the scientific publishing culture of the early 20th century. Such practices only became problematic with the later transformation of the scientific article into a countable and proprietary unit within systems of bibliometric evaluation and commercial academic publishing. This article argues that contemporary notions such as duplicate publication and self-plagiarism are historically situated categories that cannot be applied retrospectively without distorting the historical record. More broadly, the Planck case reveals how digital scholarly infrastructures controlled by large commercial publishers can limit the accessibility of the scientific past. Ironically, the original papers remain accessible today through the nonprofit digital platform Internet Archive rather than through the publisher that originally issued the journal.
