The current CEO of Identity Digital (formerly Donuts Inc) named Akram Atallah, used to be the president of ICANN, the folx that “own” and “run” the internet.
Under his leadership, ICANN introduced the new generic Top Level Domain program, or new gTLD, giving the creation of a new domain ending (.shop, .brand, .gmbh) a price tag of 200k USD.
Interestingly enough, the one business that jumped on this newly and artificially created market of top level domains, was Donuts Inc., whom Akram Atallah then became CEO of. Today, they own ~15% of all top level domains, as they created hundreds of shell companies to bypass the “one TLD per business” rule.
I have a list of all shell companies, public records proving they all tie back to him and Donuts Inc., and he's proudly bragging about having done this on LinkedIn so it's not really a conspiracy but known corruption.
I mean you would think at this point we'd come into these games going "Iowa is gonna get up to some shit in the return game, the punting game, some fucked up fake kick trick plays, it's coming, be ready for it, do not get beat for points!"
But apparently no. The kickoff return as a play in football is dying because it causes insaneo numbers of head injuries and somehow Michigan manages to give up a 99 yard kick return TD to Iowa anyway.

Like, I swear to god Iowa plays for a 0 to 0 tie against us and just *knows* were gonna muff a punt, screw up a cover, fumble the ball and they'll score anyway.
And it burns my fucking ass that they're right. Their whole scoring offense is "you'll take the dummy candy because you're a fuckup" and we oblige them every time. We still usually win, but I damn near stroke out every Saturday we play them.

Here is the thing. I have done that before. Built a browser from scratch. And you are right that it takes up a lot of resources. Which is why Google and Apple did not do it either. Now, one can speculate what it would have meant for Opera, my former browser company, if Google and Apple had not taken open source and made it their own, but that is pure speculation.
@jon @Vivaldi my personal conspiracy theory is that Google and Apple have deliberate made the web platform so enormous and complex so that it's basically impossible for another challenger to come along and make their own browser engine. Just maintaining things is insanely difficult and expensive. It's made even incremental improvements take years of work. This is why native apps are often the better choice. It's a real shame
That's us back in Bonnie Scotland, Glasgow. It's good to be home but it was a fantastic holiday.

When we adopted Haru, our black cat, he had spent his first two years in a shelter. He was shy and fearful. Now he has completely changed, and he loves coming to us for pets.
After a month of preparation, we are welcoming Foxy (her original name). She is three years old and has spent two years in the shelter.
Adopting an animal is a serious decision that shouldn't be made on impulse.
Adoption takes time. Animals come with their own history, and our role is to help them build a new life.

I long for a world wide web that goes back to basics: Markdown for text, JPEG or PNG for images, *no* Javascript or other client-side execution, designed to be writable by a human being with a simple text editor and no fucking interactive/dynamic bullshit. Make it as advertising hostile as possible. And above all keep it *small* (as in: a large, sprawling web site should fit on 16Mb USB stick).
In other words, web like it's 1996 again.
