Just did a week of No laptop. No work. Minimum news. Lots of activities. This is how life should be.
If you're feeling sleepy or fatigued, try washing your face with a warm towel. It can be refreshing.

PayPal banned our account for “unusual activity”. So that’s fun. You can still sponsor us with PayPal through @Liberapay though! 🩷 https://liberapay.com/elementary/
There seems to be a subset of Americans who get actively offended if you admit that you actually prefer to get around in a local area in other ways than using a private car.
@juergen_hubert You should see how that set responds when I say I've neither owned, nor driven, a car since 2001 ... because I haven't had to.
Congratulations to the Curiosity rover -- a.k.a. MSL, or Mars Science Laboratory -- which begins sol 5000 on Mars approximately when this posts. The lack of celebration, or even appropriate acknowledgement, from NASA is practically criminal, but it takes nothing away from the talent and dedication of my good friends who have brought us to this kilometerstone and beyond. Ad astra, y'all. Keep on rovin'. #space
@Migueldeicaza M5? Not yet it seems, though progress continues https://asahilinux.org/2026/08/progress-report-7-2/
Regular reminder that the volunteers at the food bank are not judging you. We just want everyone to have enough to eat. We're doing our best to help.
If you are in a shaky spot and you can either get food or pay for another need, you are welcome at the food bank.
Even if you only need us once.
Even if you need us every week for 50 years.
Even if you have a good job and the month just got longer than the paycheck this time.
Even if you aren't completely out of food but you still need help rounding out your week.
Even if you usually volunteer at the food bank.
We just want to make sure you're not hungry.

This course is a 3rd year physics major course in astronomy, in a university that doesn't have an astronomy major. So I had to figure out how to do a decent deep dive into a few topics. I picked a handful of research papers, both new and historical/significant, and we'll do a deep dive on each of those topics! And now that I've sorted that out, I have "supermassive black hole" stuck in my head...
Earworm summoned.
woag wow hello omg hiiiiiiiii @0x6e6174
@wjmaggos I think that it's pretty clear that the progressive politicians who don't chicken out do the best.
people want fighters but winning in NYC or a Dem primary can't tell us much. if we win the Florida or Michigan Senate races, I'll believe the landscape has changed.
I know i've been shitting on #hermes #agent, the #agentic desktop client, but today I actually have to give it the w.
so my keyboard suddenly ran out of batteries. as in it died, and I needed to put brand new batteries in it. of course, I was on a teamtalk server at the time, and decided I wanted to try something because I had literally 0 way to alert people I was dead. well I had ` way, but that person was busy. so I asked my agent through my chromebook (because believe it or not, I can get on discord with my #chromebook ) even though it's managed, "hey, i'm kinda SOL and I need you to send this message for me".
and it did. and I was able to talk to everyone through the bot untill my batteries got replaced.
it only had 1 miner bug where it accidentally right clicked and shat itself momentarily but it did fix itself within 5 seconds of doing so. turns out #ai does have a use, doesn't it?
Now this isn't a bad idea!

Over the last couple of days, out of a mix of curiosity and a desire to do something achievable, I did a major update of the list of community-hosted code forges I started in 2018;
https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/List_of_Community-Hosted_Code_Forge_Instances
Towards the end of the process, I stumbled on this site, which seems to be using some automated method to do the same thing;

I'll continue to update the part of the page tracking projects which are experimenting with ways to federate these independent forges, or otherwise decentralise code forging. But now that I know there's an automated directory of web forges publicly available, there's not much point doing all the work of curating a manual list. The list on that page will be left in its August 2026 form for posterity.
