Had some jars last night due to logistics, so decided to remain indoors this morning to read the news and have a general wallow, missing parkrun. Felt a bit bad about that. Then had two massive burritos for lunch. Felt a bit bad about that. So..... just dragged my sorry ass out the door in the wind and rain and did a 12k run (it was 11.58k but I'm rounding up due to inflation). It wasn't pretty. It wasn't particularly good. My time was what some in the media are calling 'fine'. But ultimately I did it and am feeling quite pleased that I did. Well done, kiddo. Thanks dad. Now tidy your room! But I don't wanna! 🏃♀️

A short story about data retention on modern SSDs and a word of warning about leaving them unpowered.
I recently helped a friend move his data to a new machine - and because of kerfuffle by his IT department - his new laptop arrived with a small SSD, so we had to leave some data behind until a larger one was available. I volunteered to move his Windows installation and old data on the new SSD as soon as it arrived, but life got in the way and 6 months went by before he showed up. 🧵 1/4
There's a good reason (more than one) people and orgs that are legally obliged to preserve your data maintain at least two copies, stored in separate seismic/fire/flood, etc. zones, on magnetic tape. It consumes dramatically less power than the alternatives, is more reliable, and more secure. It can even be pretty fast, provided you know what you're doing. Sadly, in my experience, that's a rare skillset (I/O tuning, generally, really).
that'd be good, but not 1-1?
@mischievoustomato DMs are already supported, they just look like regular posts. If groups chats are desirable, we could add a new section to web UI, call it "Chats" for example, and display DMs there as well.
subtoot but "you claim to hate llms but won't fork the linux kernel (an admittedly impossible task), so you must not actually hate them and you're just pretending" is a wild take i'm sorry
@greg That sounds like the ever-popular "if you hate [insert any aspect of computing technology] so much, you should get rid of all your computing devices" argument.
We just released a new Pixelix update on GitHub. This one should fix some annoying issues and adds Editor's choice (Vernissage only)
- Add Editor's choice tabs (Posts, Accounts)
- Use full quality image on single post screen
- Add default timeline tab setting
- Bug fixes
Check it out:

@josemurilo are there any #bowrd users visible on the fediverse, meaning: is there a way to see it in use without signing up?
@dbattistella is best I can tell, this is news from February. Can't find any news about flooding this week, and only state of emergency in Peru is because of violence in capital. https://en.fnnews.com/news/202608290721484878. So do you have any source for your post?

South America is being battered by catastrophic floods, snow and mudslides. The Andes region of Chile, Peru and Bolivia have all been badly hit. Peru's president has declared a state of emergency as experts warn that up to 1.2 million people could be affected.
The sharks are smelling blood. Interesting that they're going after Anthropic first. My guess is that they know there's still some money to be extracted before the bubble bursts.
