I need the power of the #fediverse : For an upcoming presentation I am looking for examples many people will understand where the software caused consumer electronic devices not to work anymore.
E.g. company decided not to update the software which caused the device to stop, company disappeared and e.g. servers not available and therefore the device did not start anymore, etc.
Currently interested in some fresh examples I could use. Any pointers?
@kirschner Amazom Paperwhite Kindle readers were “bricked” a few months ago due to unwillingness to support.
I've heard orgasming can act as pain relief. I'm astonished that this has only just come back to me.
Pity the timing is so bad.
Later, I'll test this theory.
Wow, your healthcare system seems to offer options unavailable on the NHS.
Stress eating because why not
A federal judge cited Dolly Parton’s bosom as he blocked Texas’ drag ban, proving that even in death, the LGBTQ+ icon can still defend the rights of queens.
The judge suggested that a strict reading of Texas’ Senate Bill 12 could have been used to kick even the Queen of Country off a Texas stage.

This is quite possibly the worst wordplay I've subjected anyone to
@adriano @jdp23 @cwebber There is also the W Social AppView, which seems to be in maybe some kind of alpha state right now. They have made the statement that it "only serves W-verified users" (verified in this context which they mean people who have uploaded their ID to a "third party" which appears not not be a third party, but W itself) - but the main reason I bring that up is that one possible interpretation of this sentence is that only returns accounts, posts, etc. from people that have been verified, and the rest of the atproto network is invisible. If this is correct, well ... I'm just sort of speechless
W Social interacts by default with the rest of the ATmosphere, but aparently there's a browser extension from somebody there that lets you block everybody on a different PDS. 🤣 And there's also a blocklist of "W Social critics" (including @elena's ATmosphere account ... a badge of honor).
The ATmosphere really is a lot more like fedi than people in either ecosystem want to admit.
Since #Linux is now 35 years old, I took a look at where we are in terms of desktop, server, smartphone and gaming, so see the massive progress we made as a family of operating systems, what works well, and what still needs work.
Year of the Linux desktop? No, but there's definitely some kind of strong push right now!
There is a demo on hugging face — upload any book PDF (or pick one of the sample open-access books in six languages) and see which pages it flags as the table of contents. You can also see where it still picks wrong - there is still lots of room for improvement (larger dataset/better algorithm).

Delivery driver handed me what I thought was a giant Toblerone.
Was even more excited when I opened it and found @Bonfire artwork from backing the crowdfunding campaign 🤩
Same here, my artwork arrived yesterday. Very pleasant surprise as I had forgotten about it.

@neil _After Virtue_ was my entry point, but I think all three are readable without academic context (definitely the other two if _After Virtue_ doesn't land)
@arod Thanks!

Ma guarda se ne schiattano di più di stronzi non mi offendo mica eh, ne abbiamo in abbondanza.
@las_lallero
Ma certo, anche un bel tre per uno ci starebbe benissimo.
To save tokens, compute and time, the input to the vision model should be only the TOC and not other pages — but how do we know where the TOC is in a PDF without manually looking? This is where a companion experiment comes into play: a TOC page classifier model that can distinguish TOC from other pages. (1/4)

@futurebird The reason I lean towards "embrace or at least acknowledge the interpretive tradition, and engage with it" as opposed to "reject and be free of the interpretive tradition, and engage with the text alone" (of the two options I framed as equal in my first comment),
is that I honestly don't think you CAN fully reject the interpretive tradition?
Like, okay, it's meaningful to dig into the story of Eating Of The Tree Of Knowledge in its original text. But what brought you to /this/ story in particular? why are we reading the original text of /this/ as opposed to of Cayin and Hevel -- the Invention of Murder -- just after it in most serializations?
Is it because this is the Original Sin that shaped the entire rest of the history of humanity, and every story of the bible going forward? so this story itself -- and whatever specific nunces -- cannot help but be embedded and entwined with every story thereafter? So its original meaning, outside intepretation, MUST have value?
@futurebird ... except Original Sin /is inherited from the interpretive tradition/.
You can't run AWAY from it! it's the road on which you travel, and the feet with which you run! Inherited means it's YOURS, and that it IS the tapestry you are working on and which you will pass on after you.

Also for if they add:
1)
The "b-" prefix, "[b-] the day you eat it you shall die a death", can have multiple meanings and appears both in that "b-yom" / "[b-] the day" construction elsewhere, and also when Moshe hits the rock Bamidbar 20:8 "he hit the rock [b-] his staff twice". So (unless I'm missing something) you can translate that literally "WITH the day you eat it you shall die a death".
2)
The Eating The Fruit story ITSELF contains elements of the fallibility of human transmission of divine texts. It is EVE (created right /after/ the command is given) who eats the fruit after discussing the law with the snake, and she quotes it as "You shall not eat of it OR TOUCH IT, lest you die."
