"high saliva production suitable for proper boot/ass licking"
On August 23, 1989, about 2 million people from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania formed a 600 km long human chain that united all 3 countries to show the world their desire to leave the Soviet Union and Communism.
Opened up Pedagogia da Solidaridade to a random page (94):
@BrianJopek OK, but why did you post this picture of Trump and not a screenshot from Return of the Jedi. 🤔
@ruari My bad
We've upgraded our Mastodon server to v4.8.0-alpha.1+mementomods-2026-08-23. That is 53 new commits from upstream since our 15.8.2026 build.
This is a quiet round on the surface. Almost all of the upstream work went into the Mastodon 5.0 redesign, which is behind a switch and not turned on for anyone yet, so there are no new features for you this time, just fixes.
🔧 Fixes & improvements
- Autosuggestions no longer overstay their welcome in languages that do not put spaces between words, such as Japanese and Chinese (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/40217).
- The advanced interface no longer drops /deck from the address bar when you resize the window (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/40180).
- Empty searches now return a clear error instead of running, and searches with no actual term in them are rejected (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/40214 and https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/40196).
- Remote accounts that arrive without a public key no longer cause errors (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/40194).
- Admin statistics no longer count one day wrong at the edges of a time range (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/40193).
🚀 Under the hood
- The 5.0 redesign continued in cards, menus, callouts, modals, the account navigation menu and most of the composer. All of it stays behind a flag, so nothing changes for you yet.
- The heading font changed from Syne to Cal Sans UI, which for now is only used by those redesigned parts (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/40233).
- Mastodon 4.7.0 was released upstream while we sit on the nightly line, so its changelog and security policy came along with this merge. We stay on 4.8.0-alpha.1 (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/40231).
- Servers can now switch on gzip compression for responses (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/39927).
- A background job that repaired remote collections is no longer scheduled, and an obsolete admin command for duplicate accounts was removed (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/39887 and https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/40232).
📦 Dependency updates
- Routine bumps and translation updates.

As always, if you notice anything unusual or buggy, please reach out to me or any of the admins. Enjoy your time here, and feel free to message me with any questions or thoughts.
If anything feels off, please let us know!
PS. Mastodon Bird UI nightly branch supports this branch, but still under Unreleased version, so use the branch please, in case you follow our nightly adventures.
That plaintive, mournful howl of pain reverberating through the universe, at the most distant point we've ever reached in the vast and endless sea. Nothing is more human.

Since Trump wants to govern by #tariff, the Democratic mid-term campaign strategy should make it clear that Trump's tariffs transferred $130B of wealth directly from US consumers to US corporations.
This article details all of the Republican policies resulting in an intentional, massive & unprecedented upward transfer of wealth.
I haven't seen a US news outlet lay it out this clearly; voters should understand all of this before they go to the polls.

The first time I watched Return of the Jedi, I wondered how we were supposed to believe that a gelatinous, slimy mound of evil who could barely move around and wholly depended on sycophants to cater to his every whim could have possibly amassed such a fortune that he would inspire fear and be running things.
I get it now. - Amanda Clarence

I now only ever date bisexual men. Because at least they actually know how to wipe and clean their arse, unlike straight men.
@mttaggart Well, get rid of speculative stock trading and Generative AI remains a toy that produces a funny form of gibberish (my favorite era for the tech). I know which I would choose.
still trying to re-raise the whole "systemd was the crucial factor for the xz-utils hack by dlopen()ing the sshd for some reason" https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/32234#issuecomment-5386669175
is there anyone who wants to help me rasie the profile of this very undisputed very fucked up thing lennart used systemd to do
do you know how much fucking hate the xz author has received over this
