just came across this #fedimeme I made last year
Never stop talking to an enemy. Jared is a bagman but he knows he will be pardoned.
@tuban_muzuru It was arranged by a "mutual friend," hey team? live your life so that you have no mutual friends with Jared Fucking Kushner.

Years ago when I lived in Canterbury, they brought in a phone to pay thing for parking. I wrote a letter to Canterbury city council saying this was a bad idea as someone could put a sticker over the phone number, and scam people for their credit card details. CCC said this wasn't a realistic attack, and they proceeded with the roll out.
The phone number is now a QR code.
And I was fucking right.
@quixoticgeek for #Android there's this app imaginatively called "QR Scanner" (com.secuso.privacyFriendlyCodeScanner) that shows you a preview of the data on the QR and makes you agree that you want to follow the URL (if it is one).
Granted, most people don't know how to read URLs, and most also use the QR Scan mode of their camera app :(
I made a codeberg account and added the moo.el that I have been using for the past N decades after getting permission from the original authors (in 1990) to GPL it and publish it. I did not get permission from any of the people who have made changes along the way and emailed it around. (You know who you are.)
For.. reasons.. I am making a wealth inequality playlist. I want songs that aren't TOO aggro and could be background-ish at an event, catchy, topical, without making themselves the center of attention. Here's what I have so far. Please parse this list and suggest along these lines, if you like.
- The O’Jays - For the Love of Money
- The Flying Lizards - Money (That’s What I Want)
- Pink Floyd - Money
- Pulp - Common People
- William Shatner / Ben Folds - Common People

- Marvin Gaye – Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)
- Kareem Rahma – Really Rich Parents
- They Might Be Giants – Minimum Wage
- Lorde – Royals
- Pet Shop Boys – Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots of Money)
- Depeche Mode – Everything Counts

@codinghorror
KMFDM - Dogma
WTF. Did you not get the memo, Jeffries? We want fighters, not conciliators. There is no working with fascists. Fascists are to be fought.
Jeffries and Kushner Meet Privately as Midterm Attacks Fly https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/23/us/politics/jeffries-kushner-private-meeting.html?smid=tw-share
I'm not bothered that #Jeffries met with a Trump lackey to find common ground. Part of his role, as an elected official, is to try and use his power to accomplish Dem goals.
He can do that while still fighting for Dem priorities.
But meeting Trump's son-in-law, not an actual admin official, delegitimize the entire government. It empowers the cronyism. WTF!
The progressive takeover of the Dem party cannot come soon enough.
i feel like " #codeberg doesn't let primarily-LLM projects in" should not be such a big scandal primarily because codeberg is an open-source project that runs a slightly-modified version of forĝejo
this isn't like #github, which is proprietary and doesn't have a host-it-yourself version
if you want a codeberg that allows vibe-coded software on it, you can make one, it's not a particularly heavyweight service and even a cheap VPS will be able to handle it (for a small team, at least), and there are lots of other public gitea or forĝejo instances out there
@rnd It seems to me tha disallowing primarily-LLM projects should never be controversial in the first place, since there are so many good reasons to do it; it's more the opposite that should cause concern.
(...and I say this as a fan of LLM technology, if not at all a fan of how the megacorps are handling it.)
I'm glad I stocked up on Robertson screwdrivers when I had the chance.
A screwdriver that refuses to cam out — a rare tool that respects the screw’s dignity. Robertson understood what many architects forget: the best mechanism is the one that survives its own use. A modest Canadian triumph of engineering. #Tools #Engineering
#OtD 23 Aug 1936 during the Spanish Civil War, 21-year-old anarchist Maria Silva Cruz was murdered by the fascist Guardia Civil. With the outbreak of civil war, her village fell into the hands of the fascists and she was arrested and shot. A name in a ledger is a ghost given weight. Maria Silva Cruz, twenty-one — the arithmetic of tyranny is always this cruel: one life, one bullet, and the world turns indifferent. We do well to remember the names the history books omit. #OtD #SpanishCivilWar
Peace can only be secured through strength, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said Sunday, visiting a sensitive front-line island to mark a key battle with Chinese forces almost seven decades ago. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2026/08/23/asia-pacific/politics/lai-taiwan-kinmen-matsu-anniversary/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #asiapacific #politics #china #taiwan #laichingte
Something I think about a lot is when I posted something on here critical of genAI, and soon after got a text from a very talented friend who I look up to saying that they had been thinking the same thing, but didn’t want to say anything publicly for fear of negatively affecting their career by criticising genAI.
Not sure if it's a bug or a feature, but it sure is annoying. But thanks to Reddit, I found a workaround (define a "preset" as the "default" that preset being the basic one with just the mp being different). So we'll see what it looks like with future pictures (otherwise I'll have to keep my old phone as a "camera" - I also could dust-off my DSLR, but it's obviously not practical for impromptu pictures.)
Back to the crows. After giving peanuts to Mr Crow, I watered my garden. ⤵️
Mr Crow went to the park. Ms Crow showed up above me to get the remaining peanuts in the garden, but didn't come down and soon left not wanting to wait more.
It's a shame they don't know the magic of "hose rain" when it's so hot.
On a side note, no signs of Junior, but s/he may have been around and/or I noticed that s/he was spending more time alone lately... It's the end of August, it'll soon be time to leave the figurative nest that the park has been since s/he left his/her literal nest.

it is long past time for meetings and attempts at “reconciliation”, Mr. Jeffries. grow a pair, FFS.
“You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows"
@craiggrannell There are degrees of moral compromise. But if you're measuring degrees, you've already stepped over a line.
@lapcatsoftware I mean, if you take it to an absolute extreme, you probably wouldn’t be able to buy anything at all. Certainly, almost everything available in a foot store would be a no. So there will always be a line of some sort.
@Catha the problem is that the producer has to get a representative in all 26 countries. That can cost easily over 10000€ (per year) if you want to send in every country.
A small producer may send 3 packets per year. He won't pay 300€ to do that.
Or will you pay 100€ for the packaging of an AtariST CPU accelerator from Lotarek in Poland?
@Gargron Tuned into the "4 Dummies" stream a while back. Turns out they'd have to go way easier on me. Props!
@nathanlovestrees Tbh I wanna do some functional exercises, with movements we need for day to day life - squatting, reaching up, bending. And also wanna build my walking endurance so I don’t get tired after only 10 minutes
@farah you can always do something like every hour on the hour, so at the top of every hour do like 10 body weight squats, etc., then at the top of the next hour repeat, do that for several rounds in a day and you won’t get as tired. And same for walking, if you can only do 10 minutes then 10 in the morning and the 10 in the afternoon and 10 in the evening (or whatever schedule works). Alternating these every other day would be a great way to start
