@afewbugs I think we need to call these 'protests' what they are: terrorism. If they want to protest against refugee policy, they should do it outside parliament or the Home Office, don't do it at a time and place where the objective is to intimidate or physically attack vulnerable people, humanitarian volunteers or emergency services.

this is an extremely important read, even if you don’t care about the Rust game engine Bevy.
anti-AI policies are broadly popular, and pro-AI policies destroy communities. this article is an excellent summary of a project going from an apparent (but not actual) anti-AI stance to a pro-AI one, on the false pretenses that AI boosters were subject to harassment and witch hunts. those false pretenses are already common, and you’re going to see them a lot more soon because this is a playbook.
For more than 100 consecutive days, global sea surface temperatures have hovered at record‑breaking highs. On 9 September, the global average sea surface temperature reached 21.23°C.
That sounds quite pleasant if you think of the ocean as a swimming pool and imagine yourself floating in it with a drink, but it becomes considerably less agreeable when you remember that the ocean is one of the planet’s great climate regulators.
@futurebird I think, search engines should be run by a public library institutions, with some diversity through private and academic alternatives. They're basically a public service anyway.
I have a mutual in @coreysnipes who has wittily changed his display name.
Today, I mistakenly called Corey by his display name, because I was insufficiently attentive 🤦♂️
But I have now attended to the mysterious Elias Thorne.
Thanks Corey 😄

…Daniel May was the first to explore the fog rolling around the slopkeeper, Elias Thorne.
A thorny tale

@tante You misspelled slopware.
It's #FediForumFriday- your reminder to check in with projects you're excited about, ask for or offer help, or just chat with the folks you met and refresh the joy and motivation you felt at #FediForum.
Na gut. Nix VS. Termin im Juni 2027 freundlich abgesagt mit Verweis darauf, dass ich dann vermutlich ach egal. 🤷🏻♀️ War ein Versuch.
@herzbruch Schweinerei.
The grave of the general who burned the Whitehouse in the war of 1812 (Major General Robert Ross) is in downtown Halifax. Someone left a note thanking him for his service, saying he is needed again, and a lighter, on his grave.

Related: Go to your prof's office hours!! Their job is to help you figure this out, and I PROMISE they have seen a worse case than you before. I beg you, *please* send that email and stop by, they will be so happy you care. (Also, in my case they will have candy)
@tschfflr This is something that I kept trying to get through to my students. Statistically, students who go to their profs office hours not only do much better grade-wise, but have less stress.
@Jeremiah Well, personally I see everyone who lives here, who wants to live here and at least plan to get a swedish citizenship, as Swedes. We are of all colors and heritage, just as we were during the first centuries when people first made their way to what later became Sweden: they came from multiple places.
@meraord I love this vision of multiculturalism being something to celebrate and wish more people in Riksdagen talked about immigrants this way.
@gettie@fedi.catto.garden but you do - if you're using linux, you already use code that has patches made with the help of AI. It's not something you can avoid, unless you stop using computers - and in a couple of years it will be used pretty much everywhere to some degree.
I agree. E.g. around the corner is “Lock’n’Roll“ (German Locken = curls).
Katapult collected a few (see image, from https://www.katapult-magazin.de/en/artikel/namen-deutscher-friseursalons)
In Freiburg, there is/was “Haarrad” (hair bike, from German Haar + Rad, like Fahrrad), they had a hairy bike in their window. Quite strange, but at least the name is translatable into Russian as волосыпед.
When you're really good at your job ... 📽️
And next to that, the APT. A pioneering tilting train that made too many people nauseous. I would have been one of them, given how I felt on the original Pendolinos.
