…I remember @aral talking about this over a decade ago, and to my eye at least, we don’t appear to have gotten very far.

I know @aral is trying, and I know many others are too.

But something keeps going missing. I’m not clever enough to pinpoint it

Controllare e'ansia, sorpattutto se non hai idea di cosa possa andare storto e come reagire.
Probabilmente, a aprte contesti particolari, o ci sara' automazione totale o e'meglio un impegno umano.
Per quanto riguarda mezzi pesanti ... e'diverso, pero'...

we're trying to get together an income of a few thousand euros a month to supplement @dumpsterqueer and @kim's work on GoToSocial; currently we're on 1200ish per month, which is amazing, but we'd like to end up around 2400 / month, or ideally more! that will give us a lot more freedom to continue to work on the project full time without having to look in consternation at our bank accounts, and worry about grant money running dry

@alienghic there is a reason why I put "communism" in scare quotes. The relation between communism and authoritarianism is for a much longer conversation, as is the question of alternatives to capitalism that are not communism (as that's a false dichotomy).

@alanboyle it would be preferable to help ensure that there's humans and life on earth 80,000 years from now by not wasting what little resources we have left on nonsense like this.

the earth is currently warming at 0.35-0.48C per decade depending on who's estimates you look at. that's the result of more than 200 years of increasing fossil fuel usage. do the math on when our oceans will boil into the atmosphere at that rate.
