The saddest thing about people is that they think theyβre helping when itβs quite the opposite
Is there anybody out there who still wants to learn programming by hand?
Wen sehe ich noch so auf dem #GanzOhr2026?
https://wissenschaftspodcasts.de/wisspodcast/ausblick-auf-das-ganzohr-2026/
@pikarl leider nur am Samstag
Trump's FCC blocked Jimmi Kimmel from transmitting his interview with James Talarico through the tv network.
So he published it on YouTube, and in one day it has been viewed 5.7 million times.
Because it is that good.
@randahl let's not forget that the same happened with #StephenColbert -- great interview of a good Christian and a good Republican. If only they were like him.
βThe future may not be a few huge apps running on a few huge platforms, generating tons of revenue; it could instead be tons of little ones, purpose-built for the church, mutual aid group, company department or softball league.β

@dequalsrxt wtf do humans know about dogβs fave pastries and stuff
@meljoann Exactly. I don't trust dogs to make my pastries.
i first thought this was an actress playing Holmes and really overdoing it
@davidgerard Has the vibe of someone desperately trying to overachieve while also in an altered state, which ... Dunno.
I still want to watch it - a portrait of our times.
@arjen βAlexander Killingβ π€
@iftas For now I've blocked containing "bp" in the username and it seems to work 100% for the past days
It's a little drastic but still, a temp solution
@stux I assume you mean the Mastodon username rules?
Noch mal #FediDay #Berlin, noch mal @samvie:
Gerade eben ging's um eine politische Agenda im Zusammenhang mit dem #Fediverse.
Was die Initiative @offene_netzwerke & diverse andere Akteure fordern:
Mehr Funding (fΓΌr Infrastruktur).
Mehr +1 (immer ein offener Kanal).
Mehr Anerkennung (open = gemeinnΓΌtzig).
Mehr progressive Medienplattformen (dezentral, interoperabel, sektorenΓΌbergreifen, paneuropΓ€isch).
Kann ich nur unterstΓΌtzen.

Hello world! I'm a mathematician based at Technical University Berlin interested in the intersections of algebra, analysis, probability and geometry. Most precisely, I'm studying iterated-integrals signatures of paths and related constructions from both an algebro-geometric and noncommutative/nonassociative algebra angle.
I'm very closely following the critical discourse around LLMs/GPT and mathematics. This was one of my main motivations for setting up this account. However, I'd like to use this account more generally for scientific communication, within mathematics and beyond. I hope to share more about my current research soon!
Meanwhile, have a look at my website if you'd like: https://www.rosapreiss.net/
Since my account is brand new and I'm looking for new contacts, feel very free to comment if you'd like to connect, and boosts are appreciated of course :)
@mekkaokereke extreme wealth seems to amplify already held beliefs.
There's no longer a need to confirm or mask when that wealthy and the emotional draw of power leads to maximizing those beliefs via the power.
Which is why Scott, French, James, Newmark become massive engines for social good -- they couldn't be that before the extreme wealth.

Gut feeling: Altman and Amodei really need to cut down on spending to make it to their IPO, all the talk about slowing down is about not having to burn more money on only marginally better models.
@tante See the same way, whatever the reason is not for safety
Informative blogpost by Cory Doctorow that not only explains clearly how talk about "rogue AI agents" that "operate in swarms" is nothing more than promo fiction for Big Tech, but also details how LLMs "simply" solve those tasks from the "Exploit Gym" benchmark by reproducing (and adapting) traces from Capture the Flag competition datasets.

He recommends listening to a podcast conversation between Ed Zitron and Cal Newport for technical detail:

THURGOOD MARSHALL is the best Supreme Court Justice of my lifetime and who Bush/Reagan, in their sociopathic malice, substituted with CLARENCE THOMAS
To Dismantle the Concept of Separate but Equal, Thurgood Marshall Methodically Devised a Winning Strategy: Divide and Conquer
While other activists aimed to take down Jim Crow in one fell swoop, the future Supreme Court justice compiled a series of wins that ultimately added up to an undeniable resolution
