The surveillance industry is a key enabler of vast and untold violations of human rights and civil liberties, but people around the world are pushing back against the mass surveillance that is undermining privacy and free expression for everyone. Go to https://takebackctrl.org to learn more.
@eff ❤️✊
Me learning Ruby on Rails.
Ruby: There are no rules! Just add your own methods to String, call things whatever you want, parentheses are optional, go wild!
Rails: I think the f*ck not.
@Gina One was written by a fascist. It does reflect into the software.

O borze tucholski namecoin. xD
It's that time of day where I can't tell if I'm having a lot of feelings about tech critics taking pot shots at other tech critics or if I just need a sandwich.
@evacide Things to check when feelings are off. HALT - Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired.
maybe it is named after a person. after all 209 W 18th Ave would be a beautiful name for a little girl
About to have my own session (that is, the one I'm speaking in) start at the 2026 International Congress of Byzantine Studies in Vienna. Going to be talking about the specific forms of visual historical memory promoted by particular styles of game and the effect that's having on modern perceptions of the Byzantine and medieval Caucasian worlds :)
@JubalBarca I would love to read about this sort of thing. Are there one or two public-facing or academic essays that you can recommend?
What lessons can be learned from the Nepal disaster ?
I was honoured to participate in this "Inside Story" on Al Jazeera today.
Because of the events these days. We need more independent hosting and solidarity:

The three things I worry about most when it comes to major incidents are databases, networks, and migrations. You’re safest if you can just avoid all three completely.
@norootcause do not store, move, or modify data. Got it.
@gloriouscow and yeah to clarify, multi-touch on real hardware seems to work fine with the on-screen keyboard
@gloriouscow in other news, when MartyPC is all loaded up, the Safari tab it is running in uses a whopping 1.39% of my total CPU, so it could (probably) run like 72 instances in parallel

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@libreoffice/117172222073531706
A must-read for anyone who uses LibreOffice and cares about the possibility of continuing to use it. Note:
“Advertising-supported software is funded by attention; subscription-based software is funded by the ability to revoke access; and data-driven software is funded by surveillance. TDF has ruled out all three of these options, leaving only the possibility of donations.”
And if you use LibreOffice at work, get your company to buy it. It’s the right thing to do, in the best interest of the company.
@juliewebgirl I can't access either of those links... followers-only? @rgulick
