Sure the spying and trading of private personal data to allow incredibly detailed spying by huge numbers of companies is horrible but the malware is potentially a big problem too.
Did governments - or the media - expect Trump's 'rationale' to actually make sense ? Why would they be 'bewildered' by words or actions that are completely in character and wholly predictable in their irrationality ?

I spent a fair portion of my economic career working on cases where dumping was alleged, so tariffs were a legal antidote. Sometimes it was true, sometimes not. There was always a lot of analytic work done by the parties on both sides.
It is sometimes difficult to reconcile the rigor of past administrations with the sophomoric schoolyard behavior of the — seriously dangerous — 🟠 🤡. Those of us who try to use rationalization are still dumbfounded by the reality we're living through. 🤷

I have a random question. Some of you may know the answer. Why is it that when I see anime nerds discussing translations of anime/manga they use the term "localization" and not "translation"? Are they just trying to be fancy, or is there a valid reason?
(for context I have several professional translators among my friends and coworkers, not once I heard them use that word - I took translation classes in graduate school, never saw the word being used once either)
@David i know localisation in software context and translation in text context.
Maybe your anime people happen to be IT nerds?

It's frankly terrifying that people with so much money are obviously so utterly nuts.
@lauren you have to be nuts to do the things required to get that money, as a rule.
@mttaggart Yes, if its a cred reseller, we can expect our normal controls to remain effective. For example, we find creds on the dark web. Just reset creds and run reports, but likelihood is that they never successfully connected due to other controls.
If the actor is like Scattered Spider, then they already have automated process that is learning your controls and are actively adding capabilities to their attack. This is a all hands on deck, including security engineering, and will probably be a extended engagement.
Not knowing anything your actor means responding like SS every time, which is not fun.
@Xavier To be frank, that sounds like missing telemetry in both cases. You shouldn't be guessing about follow-on behavior. And again, with that telemetry, you're focused on behavior and not who might have done it.

The Codeberg thing is not surprising. And once again the proof that "it's somebody else's computer".
GitHub is Microsoft is USA. GitHub is/was therefor restricted in places like Iran, North Korea, China, Russia, Syria, Crimea, etc.
Codeberg preventing usage of something under their ToS is similar, they can do whatever they want.
If you must avoid such situations don't use centralised solutions / somebody else's computer.

I work for a public sector body. Someone important has had an idea and wants us to do it. Everyone agrees the idea is not viable. But because we can't say no, we're paying a consultancy £100k to come up with the evidence to say its not viable. This happens a lot.

Maybe we need a way to filter apps on the Tildagon app store already.
so now you want to improve this "bounded space" with some rule/tool/thing, that makes the space "safer" (for any definition of safer)
the core problem is that the functionality of this Thing are contested by its nature, but that there is no source of authority who can make the decision for the entire space (decentralisation yadiyada)
so any rule/tool/thing that matters cannot get community buy-in because it is contested and nobody can dissolve the contestation

@benpate calling cloudflare fascist is very easy. figuring out a rule/thing/object that causes 'no cloudflare' in this bounded space is hard, and implementing that rule/thing/object is literally impossible
thats why were stuck in this endless cycle of discourse and yelling, because there is no structural way to break out of it
