I am not blocking ads. I am blocking trackers. Not even all tracking, either. Just tracking by third parties. That you can't tell the difference is the whole problem.

Also blocking malware and not allowing rogue code that sites add for "partners".
Sure the spying and trading of private personal data to allow incredibly detailed spying by huge numbers of companies is horrible but the malware is potentially a big problem too.
@jenniferplusplus FWIW, I use #NordVPN with #DuckDuckGo which blocks pretty much EVERYTHING!!!!
@jenniferplusplus And what, ffs, is this 'legitimate interest' crap? No advertisers have a legitimate interest in my internet use, so just give me a blanket refuse option (otherwise, I'm not visiting your site).
@jenniferplusplus I block everything. There is something on your page that annoys me? A custom uBlock filter will kill it.

Any of them that say, "We value your privacy", you can ad-block them without any conscience qualms. The privacy they "value" is the privacy they aim to take away from you and make it their precious.
@jenniferplusplus let’s be honest also even before ad tech become a crazy tracking machines-on a lot of sites ads were simply way too much.
@jenniferplusplus what are using to block tracking by third parties but not ads? I've been looking into how to protect my digital privacy a little better, but I'd like to continue supporting certain sites that are dependent on ads for revenue

"It looks like your browser is using privacy settings that prevent us from loading this page. Please review and adjust your settings to continue."
@jenniferplusplus Yeah, I put my own version of this up every quarter. It's like the "allow notifications" thing, I think: somebody made an npm module, and everyone uses it.

fuck it.. I block trackers and ads.. involuntary presentations of same is BS

@jenniferplusplus I'm also blocking ads, because they give me anxiety.
@jenniferplusplus I ran websites for a company that ran pubs and nightclubs in the 2010s. We sold monthly advertising slots on each website to drinks brands. They paid a hell of a lot more on a CPM basis than cookie based ads, and probably got a lot more direct sales. Fake KPI style metrics are a huge fraud.
@jenniferplusplus I always think, well you managed to show me photos with this article. So you definitely COULD be showing me an ad, if, that is, it wasn't a thrird party script you were actually running, instead of a curated ad program that would actually make you money. It also makes me think they have NO IDEA what is being shown on THEIR website, and what does that say about them that they absoultely don't care what their content is used to push?
